    Seeds direct from Lima, Peru!!!

Thank you Nigel, great find, bookmarked with an itchy finger on the buy button !!!   I may throw the more interesting ones into Walmart grow bags with 2 gallons of potting mix, just to experiement  ....

Need some help on this one

Agreed with podpiper, don't assign actual names, and disseminate seeds as such, if you aren't reasonably sure. I'd stick with podpiper's naming idea, "yellow cross", or "red chinense #1".   The white bullet hab may be more obvious though.   And if the flavors weren't anything special, then...

    Azomite? mycronized/ granular?

Bustapepper how many plants, and what size plot will you have?   I ask because a little of the powder goes a long way, if done the right way. You also do not want to toxify the soil by using too much.   In my instance, it would take me forever to use 44lbs.

Perlite Greening and Cotyledons dying off before true leaves pop

Agreed, too wet and sheltered deep inside the cup.   Water them less and pierce a couple of more holes into the bottom of the cups. Certain coco types absorb a lot of water and hold it for a longer time.

Grow Shelf. What type of Lining?

If it's going to be reflective, then it has to be relatively smooth to avoid flashing and or hot spots (it can do unexpected things to plants). But otherwise, smooth foil or mylar is good because it "refocuses" the bulb back onto the plants.   Painting the surrroundings white is a good...

    New Year Mystery

Not saying it isn't, but out of the many, many  Fatalii pods i've had, i don't recall seeing one with that cone / cylindrical shape. But, you never know !   Perhaps Fatalii is in the bloodline somewhere though.   If it is a cross, some of the pods in the succeeding generations often reveal clues...

    New Year Mystery

Hard to tell but something seems off with the shape of the leaves, the parent pod *may* have crossed with something not in the Chinense family.   If the pepper turns out a winner, then maybe isolate a few flowers to get pure/uncrossed seeds.  Repeat that process for 6-8 seasons and you'll have...

soil Fox farm soil users I have a question...

Been through a bunch of bags of Fox Farms and can't remember any rocks in them. I'm sure they were there, just not enough to notice.   As for the twigs, it depends on my mood, but i would just leave them in probably since they are well decomposed.   I've used it straight for sprouts with no...

How much did my T5s contribute to my last electric bill?

OP, if you are not looking for indoor pods and ripening then 17 hours a day isn't necessary, we are still way early for the 2014 grow season.   I have "gotten by" with seedlings and floros with as little as 8 hours a day. I do keep the lights close to the canopy, and have booster lights on the...

    Chocolate Scorpion sprouts!

Young sprouts are tough, you can transplant them now before their roots get too tangled together, and even if that were to happen they would be fine with careful handling.   Leave them close together for too long and they will compete for light and get lanky.   Browning's spoon idea is a good one.

seeds When do I move the seedlings to cups?

4th set of leaves and still in seed starter soil, they may need weak nutes or a pot-up, or both.

container Max effective air prune pot size?

I'd only go to 20 gallons for tomato plants, their roots respond to container size the most. But, if you insist on a larger size for your pepper plants, then you can always try out some 10 gallon containers.   Size of pot before diminishing returns? on average? I'll guess somewhere in the 7-10...

seeds Cut Ocean Forest for Seedlings

It'll be totally fine if you mix it wth Light Warrior, no worries. And when you eventually pot up, you can mix in the rest of your Ocean Forest.   Good luck with your 2014 grow.   Steve

How to tell Hotness by appearance

Agreed with the others, milk for temporary relief, bananas and peanut butter for longer relief.   Arrive prepared, otherwise it may ruin your day, no joke. But everyone reacts differently so it may not be that bad.

Anyone have a good wholesale site?

Bookmarked, thank you. I like the root trainer pots and tree seeedling containers, which means little to no root spiraling in my experience.   Here's a few more that i've ordered from Tim, in case you want to price compare:   - http://plasticflowerpots.net/ <-- more deep root trays here. -...

seeds Cut Ocean Forest for Seedlings

For seed sprouting I now cut my Ocean Forest with coco choir, perlite and azomite etc. But when i first started using it, i used it straight up, it never burned any of my seedlings, nor the young transplants.   Normally the price would keep me away, but i got lucky with a store that sells Ocean...

indoor a question about heat in a grow tent

Agreed with Willard.   Before spending money, sucking up more electricity, and creating noise, try using natural convection first.   Open up a flap up top and down bottom, and watch the temps drop 10 degrees ;)

tepin x lemon drop (new f3s in the dirt)

The F1's look and sound awesome enough, i wonder how all of the following lines will turn out.   Would be great if everyone involved would eventually post their pictures here.   And Smiley: planting an F2 from an un-isolated pod may turn out interesting :)

    misc 2013 tentative grow list

Posted a few thoughts in my quote above.   I agree that another brown Chinense type would work well, maybe substitute-out one of your oranges or yellows.   Remember to isolate unopened flowers to get pure seed for 2015.   Good luck and enjoy the grow.
