The legginess of them was like that from the plastic cup in germination. I just didn't get to plant them as deep as the rest since I didn't have enough yogurt cups to go around. I will get them planted up this morning in the 5 oz cups. Good to know on the temp. I'll adjust the store's temp...
How warm is too warm? I came in this morning to my 2 lemon drop babies laying over and a little dried out. The rest of the peppers look good. I had the Lemon Drops in a little section of egg crate because that was all I had at the time and they were smaller than the NuMex Big Jims and African...
Thanks a bunch Siliman, I really appreciate your kind words and help! I will try out the bottom watering tomorrow, I top 'spritzed' them this morning so I will test it out tomorrow so I don't get them too wet. I tried to find a small desk fan to put on them but no one around here is carrying...
Thanks, AJ and np, I didn't mean for my reply to sound defensive in any way :) I checked out your glog, very impressive. I only hope I can some day get to that level and knowledge. I just started last year getting into growing my own peppers and tomatoes and hope to get better. I plan to...
The ballast are very picky in this building, the lights have to be in just right. The 6500k light was in good, it just for some reason turned off after awhile and didn't want to stay on then. I have the other new light (the higher lumen) in without issues. It stays on with no problem. This...
For sure an older fixture, this building is really old. :( I can't see what makes that big of a difference when they are both 30 watt lights, but I don't know much about lighting though.
Julie
Thanks, well, I just had a set back. After about 30-45 minutes of the 6500k light in the light has just turned off. It didn't blow but I don't know what happened?! I had the higher lumen light in before for hours without issue. I just unscrewed the light and put it back in and it's on again...
Thanks guys! I now have the sprouted ones potted and underneath the 6500k light. I really don't like getting the starter mix moist, such a pia! The plants are within a 1"-1 1/2" of the light. I won't be fruiting the plants under the lights, this is just to get them going until it's nice...
Ok, went to WalMart and they didn't have any 36" flor other than the one I already have. So I went to Lowes and these are the two they had so I just picked up both. Should I use both and switch between the two since one has the higher lumens while the other has the 6500k?
Some of my...
I'm trying to find a good jalapeno variety. I don't want the Biker Billy's because I hear they are pretty hot. I'm looking for a larger jalapeno that is good for stuffing (poppers) but has a 'normal' jalapeno heat. Any suggestions? Know where I can get seeds? Thanks!
I believe nets are your only good way. I had an awful time with birds eating my tomatoes (didn't bother my peppers) last year due to over a month of 105 plus temps and drought. I've tried the owl decoy etc. but birds catch on to it after a couple of days. I had 2 almost ripe tomatoes at the...
I know both Lowes and WM carry some 36" I just don't know the specs of them. I'll see if I can find a small fan to stick up there at night, I remember reading that on another post, thanks! Also, what do you think about the dark cycle time? Thanks again for all the help.
Thanks stc, I will go to the store in a few days and see if I can find a 36" daylight 6500k. I should be able to find that, it was just the 'grow light' I couldn't find. I have Lowes and Walmart as my options here. I will update on what I find and with pics as my plants are coming along...
Thanks Siliman! It isn't hard to get to where the seedlings will be and I will be able to raise and lower their height as well. I had thought about putting foil on the back of the poster, for sure now since you recommended it. I plan to put the seedlings in 5 ounce yogurt cups I am saving...
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help! I will see what else I can work out. I might try and see if I can put a small desk lamp with a good bulb in it as well. I am trying to go as cheap as I can since money is tight and also because it is very temporary.
Lol, no, not illegal. I am only...
Oh, and the pic makes it look much darker than it really is. It's really bright up there. I only plan on having them there for a little bit while they are just starting out. I will then move them home to a south facing window where I have my over wintered pepper plants. It's just too cold...
This will only be for a short time to get them going. I live in Oklahoma so I can start putting them out during the day towards the middle to end of March usually. It won't be for a full sized plant by no means, just while they are babies.
I have a spot at work that I am planning on putting my plants under once they start growing. It has a mirrored back and I will put the plants on shelves with a poster in front to hide them. I figure it will help keep them warmer with the poster in front as well. I have been looking for a grow...
Thanks a bunch, Greg. I'm trying to figure out the best method and get everything ready. Now I just have to be patient and wait for them to germinate!
Julie
I first want to thank everyone for the great info. I then have a question... I have all of my seeds starting in plastic baggies w/ damp paper towels. I have learned that when they get the first little root it is time to move them. My question is what is the best method? Put them into the...
