UV light does break it down, sunlight has UV of course, or Vit C. That is likely mineral residuals.

I wasn't thinking you are over cautious just recalled reading how early chemist used sight smell and taste. Likely undergrades had to do that.

I agree with Phil we have alot of of hard water in the Mid-West and mineral deposits on clay pots are common, all though most don't get that fine of gypsum like crystal. What's the matter with old school chemistry testing? ;)

The basic info on how to grow, dry, etc whould likely be the same. Just aa few tweaks would be needed. As for keeping up on all the new verities plus the multiple names some peppers have you would need computerized data base.

I would think a fast burn (like in a grass fire) would leave the roots and even some of the plant base intact and providing some compost when tilling, getting some advantages of both.

Maybe temporary but glacial till soils are normaly a little alkaline anyway and rain water should neutralize the ash ph.
