Just to chime in... I read on a couple of threads here that cooking down in aluminum pots can lead to a metallic taste. Could that have been the chemical taste you are referring to?   I'm also just getting into making sauces. Please keep posting updates!

Not to hijack the thread, but... Only lacto b starter I could come up with was some probiotic stuff the doctor prescribed for my son while he was on antibiotics. I've already started a ferment with it, but want to start another couple of ferments without waiting to see what the results are like...

I'm going to try this this week. No superhots easily available, so going to be using lots of red and green thai chilies. Nice thread and thanks ta all those who posted pics.

I had thought they were whiteflies, on account of finding whiteflies on my eggplants a few days ago. These small white things are smaller than those ones. Anyhow, I'm trying the soap, water, and oil thing today.

  Just aphids? I thought the white ones were something else. Cool. Soap and water away!

Not sure what is in this photo, though I do have two guesses in mind. Seeing as how my guesses are just... guesses, thought I might ask for some help. What s that on my chili plants?

  There isn't really a schedule. I'm building a couple of greenhouses, but don't think I'll be waiting for them to be finished. Also, I'm still experimenting with hydroponics, so might be better to plant things in stages, give me a chance to learn from my mistakes.    At this point, I'll order...

I found locally available seeds for most of these, except:   El Jefe   Any of the pubescens   Sugar Rush   Carbonero (there is a reaper x available)   De Aqua, Aji Pineapple (but there are other ajis), Aji Jobito/Cachucha, Crescendo   I guess I'll put those on hold until I want to do some...

By large grow I meant 30-50 plants. I was thinking maybe 3 or so of each variety. I suppose that is not very large, compared to some of you guys.    Thanks for all the tips. Now I can go seed shopping.

I'm new to the forums and to growing, looking for a bit of help sorting through the massive variety of peppers out there. I like hot food, but have never eaten a superhot pepper. Want to plant some of those. Great if they have some flavor other than "hot". I used to love eating these grilled...

I live in Indonesia. I also know almost nothing about chili peppers. With those two things in mind, I'm a bit worried that I won't know what I am buying, if I am eating the chili I thought I bought and planted, or just some random cross that is half cabai rawit ("Ternyata Carolina Reaper itu...

Just a final update. Those plants seem fine, still growing, though a bit slowly due to a lack of light. The rest of the leaves have come in without any abnormalities. Thanks for the advice and info guys.

I've also experienced this a few times. There are a lot of chili pastes where you fry the chilies I'd say the pain of inhaling vaporized chili is almost worth it for the delicious flavor of the paste, provided someone else is cooking and I just have to listen to them complain about the...
