Update, 4 of them popped yesterday,at right around a week. I think I planted about 6 or 7. So, it might not be the seeds. Could be a problem with temperature, humidity, disease, etc.

I just spray their helmets a few times a day to loosen them and then squeeze the sides of the seed gently and slip it off. Or you could just leave them alone and they'll lose it naturally, but I like to mess with things.

Have you thought about laying some black fabric mulch in the early spring? That should warm your soil temperatures quite a bit and might get you off to a faster start. I'm a little more south than you guys but I started chinenses, wilds, and pubes about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Starting baccatums...

Chiltepin and pequin always germinate very quickly and easily for me. I planted some chiltepin from tradewindsfruit about 4-5 days ago though, so I'll let you know how mine do. If they are bad seeds mine might be bad too.

Nice article, I'm looking forward to using LEDs in a few years when they're more efficient and cheaper. Running a greenhouse year around with LEDs that don't double the electricity bill would be awesome.

Bih jolokia are about the same as bhut jolokia in heat, though it's hard to say for sure that those are bih. Not sure why you would want to trick your friends and family, but Butch T is the least gnarly and evil looking pod. Most people take one look at a bhut jolokia, douglah, or brain strain...

Tradewindsfruit says "mildly hot", so maybe they're supposed to have a little more heat than I thought.

Congo black habanero, biker billy jalapeño, fatalii, hot lemon, red rocoto, and yellow scotch bonnet are my favorites fresh. Pequin/chiltepin, guajillo, California and de árbol dried.

I've grown TFM, Foodarama, and a Jaimacan Yellow Scotch Bonnet from Tradewindsfruit. The one from Tradewindsfruit has the best flavor imo.

They're supposed to be very mild, almost without any heat at all. I'm growing some this year.

I grew some last year, seeds were from semillas.de if I remember correctly. I wasn't impressed with the flavor at all, but I might try again with seeds from another source.

You'll find widely varying NPKs for mushroom compost on the internet, from around 0.7-0.3-0.3 up to ~2.0-0.8-2.0. Depends on the brand of course, is there no NPK listed on those bags? There is a study for corn crops that found an average of 1.12-0.67-.1.24. So it's probably about the same as...

I think your temperatures might be too high. Are you getting some scragglers with skinny cotyledons? That usually seems to be a sign that temperatures are too high. My hydrofarm thermostat malfunctioned allowing the temps to get way too high for about 12 hours and it really slowed things...

You should generally get about 80% or better if conditions and seeds are good. Might as well plant a few extra you can cull some later if you need to, and save more seed at harvest time. I sow extra because I don't want to wait 3 weeks and then have to sow more later. Some variaties won't do...
