    chinense dud of a bhut?

Agreed on mass production. If picked too early, I'd be willing to bet that the pepper was never given the chance to develop the seeds/core, and likely not the oils either. Although it should also be mentioned that there is a natural variation in heat of most peppers, even produced on the same...

    temperature range ?

I find that Pepper production does slow down at those temps, but it they will ripen just fine. Once your high drops in to the 50's They start to move slowly. Below 50F, they crawl. But thats just my experience.

Big update today. I did quite a bit of work over the weekend.   First up we have a decent little harvest of peppers. Yellow and Orange mini bells, Tequila Sunrise, Hatch Chiles, Super Thai's and Dragon Cayennes. The Tequila Sunrise and Hatch Chiles turned out perfectly. Nice firm, crunchy flesh...

lighting Vertical chilli grow indoors 600w MH/HPS lighting

And light of course if there's a bit of light there let's grow a plant in it :)   When you're paying 20c a unit you want to get the best bang for buck. With an indoor setup like that, you really do need to maximize every square inch of space you can. I have run in a tent before, and with the...

Can you ID this parasite for me (photos)

+1 for Organocide. It's easy to get your hands on.   As a note, before moving everything back in to my greenhouse I usually do Copper + Neem Oil + D-Limonene treatments once or twice before moving everything in to the greenhouse.   Liquid Copper should be used infrequently, and not near the...

    PaulG 2014

Nice pics, The peruvian Amarillos looks amazingly tasty. Tepins are exploding with peppers, great pictures paul. The season is definitely winding down for you - at those temps the peppers are going to be moving at a crawl compared to what they were.   Your clones are looking good, especially for...

    Oddball pepper I.D.?

It looks like an ornamental to me, and the way you describe the taste is exactly how some of those ornamentals can taste.. The purple prince from my sig looks similar, but the leaves on yours have a more rounded shape to them, where mine is more slender and pointy. Flowers and pepper pics might...

An update on my adults.   Firstly, I'll start off with the adult Tequila Sunrise pepper plant.  I now know why they call the variety 'Tequila Sunrise.' Beautiful 3-4" or so pods, Macaroni Orange in color when fully ripe. As the pepper changes colors it is truly spectacular to witness. When I...

How are those pubescens crosses doing? Good to see that you are checking up on me paul. Here are the manzano habs. Growth is pretty good thus far. At this point you can already see which varieties are going to be faster than others. The ghosts and piquins are by far the slowest from my...

Cool. None of mine for 2015 seem irregular like that.   It's like a person with 3 arms instead of 2.   TAG IT!

Yet another update on my little guys. They're growing much more quickly now that they have some real leaves. Most of the types are working on their second or third set now, so we will make it in to adolescence shortly.   Here is my first 2 trays of seeds, plus the 6th one (left) which has...

An update on the seedlings Second shelf Continuing to grow, and moderately quickly. The size difference and leaf shapes vary quite a bit - pretty amazing. I'm happy with the growth so far. I've been using small amounts of bat guano and earthworm castings to keep them happy. I'm not going...

    Slade122's 2014 Greenhouse GLOG

I added another Hydrofarm FLT24 to my seedling starting zone. These fluorescent lights use 4x 24w T5 HO bulbs for a total of 96 watts of output. These units ship with Agrobrite 6500k bulbs which have been great thus far. True leaves are forming on a number of the varieties. Looking very green...

Hello from San Diego - Question about building capsaicin tolerance.

I eat spicy foods at every meal. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Doesn't matter if it is fresh pods, dried powders, sauces, or ferments. I started to gain my tolerance by growing more jalapenos than I could eat and finding new uses for them. Pretty quickly that turned in to manzanos, cayennes...

    Virgil's Small Scale Glog

Looking good thus far. With T5 HO I have found that I need about 4 bulbs to get my Desired growth level. I'm using envirogrow/hydrofarm FLT24's for my seedling starts. Even at 12-16" away from the tops of the plants I get good growth. If you see any signs of early stretching at all - you need...

Why are jalapeno based sauces so darn pulpy?

+1 for the ninja. I have one and use it for my sauces frequently. I also have a cuisinart food processor with roughly equal results. Try blanching your peppers whole (stem and all, no cuts) before blending them. To save the heat and get the texture you want.

This has probably been asked, but .... is there any benefits to keeping the lights on 24/7 ?

18-20 hours of light at most is what I would suggest for seedlings. I don't use any more than 18 hours on adult plants. Honestly, I see little or no difference from the 1000 watts of light in my greenhouse running more than 18 hours - except for on my electricity bill.

    Pots

I root around our alley to find whatever nursurey pots that I can - in any size available for taking as long as they are reasonably sturdy. Pots used for small trees are the best - as they are generally thicker and have the heavy ring around the top making them easier to handle. When I find...
