Shigshwa's Grow Log 2015-2016 (Hydro Grow of Carolina Reapers)

Thanks! Right now, I'm having fruit set problems. My flowers produce a lot of pollen, but they don't set fruit!

Makes sense. I'll buy a fan sooner or later, just not at the moment.

Yeah, there's an article in the Grow Tech section covering that. Lighting 101.

The color of the light. 2700 and below promotes blooming, 4500 and up promotes vegetative growth. 2700s are kind of pinkish, with a hint of daylight. 5500s are white, and 6500s are slightly bluish.

overwintering Is it me or can Fatalli- wrinkle for the winter?

I think most leaf would do that. When I grew pumpkins, I once left them outside for the night at 50 degrees F. When I came back, the leaves were wrinkled and leathery, like fabric. After bringing them inside and misting them, they reinflated and felt like leaves again!

50 is pretty cold for any pepper growth of occur. I think switching to CFLS would be a better option, more light for the wattage. However, if your tent does not keep warm enough, then you probably need to leave the incandescents in there as well. I have... 2 28W 5500K, 1 28W 6500K, and 3 42W 2700K

Is it necessary? My temps hang at 73-75. Do I need it for pollination? I can install a 6 inch fan in there, but I don't know if it's necessary.

    first try @ bhut jolokia

Welcome to the forums! Your setup looks excellent! Hope your grow goes well. The best temp for germination is 80-85 degrees from my experience. As far as humidity goes, It shouldn't be dry, but shouldn't be extremely humid either. Too dry and the seeds may dry out, but if you keep an eye on...

Shigshwa's Grow Log 2015-2016 (Hydro Grow of Carolina Reapers)

Week 13, day 91. Built a simple rack for hanging the lights. Upgraded the system to 6 lights. Plants are blooming furiously, but only one fuit has set. I assume it's because of overfertillizing on N. After feeding some Tiger Bloom, the flowers went from dropping a few specks of pollen to...

    shopping fox farm products

Tiger Bloom helped solve my flower drop problem when I gave them too much N from worm tea. More flowers popped up, and pollen production increased. From what Fox Farms has told me though, it's apparently not good for soil organisms when used constantly.

For soil pH, I use a pH meter. I don't know how you would test pH with plugs though... I think that depends on the pH of the water/nutes you give them. There doesn't need to be any lighting when they haven't sprouted yet. I don't think it has any benefits, unless that was your only heat source.

    Are T5's able?

I use 4 CFLs, 1 2700k, 2 5500k, and 1 6500k. So far, my plants have been flowering like mad!

For me, I kept them in a humidity dome at 84 degrees, damp soil, and I had 90% of them germinate within 2 weeks The latest ones popped up around a month after planting. I think the seeds will not sprout when exposed to conditions above 90 degrees. As long as your room isn't too hot, the heat mat...

seeds Today's the day! Plugs or Seedling mix?

If cost isn't an issue. then I would go with something like Rapid Rooters. I've gotten great results with the plugs. Root growth is fuzzy and vigorous!

    What's causing this ?

Then yeah, from what you described, probably burn from spraying them under the light.

    What's causing this ?

When you spray them, never put them under the light when they're still wet. It'll burn the leaves.

    Planting Deeper

I think this would happen for pretty much all plants. Plant deep, but not too deep. They can only grow so much before they run out of food. I might be wrong, but perhaps if you started the seeds, then transplanted them in a big pot with the soil above the typical soil line, it might have the...

    Fox farm prices

I've gotten 1.5 cu ft for as low as 10 dollars when it's discounted. I think it's worth it. 1.5 is enough soil to fill a whole bunch of pots!
