    Climate Change

This is my first year growing, but since I've been riding motorcycles for around 12 years daily, I've always had a habit of checking the weather like 10 times a day LOL....  Now that I grow, it's another reason to check it :)

    Climate Change

I think someone has been adding soil to my garden at night, and the plot thickens..... Really though, oct 7th the weather was looking great for at least 14+ days in North Missouri, now we are expecting 31 degree temps tonight....  we "were" expecting 34 degree temps only 2 hours ago Definitely...

    Climate Change

I've been noticing this a LOT lately, super mild winters the last few years, this summer was one of the hottest (breaking records even) early on, and now we likely won't see the first frost until after October in north Missouri.  With how crazy summer was though, I'm kind of expecting us to...

seeds Leggy seedlings keep getting longer

Well I started late this season (first year growing) on a 3rd floor balcony, I was having 90-100f temps most of July which made flowers drop, but still ran my lights on my plants anytime I didn't get direct light Lately I've been having anywhere from low-high 70's for daytime temps, and...

    Crunch time

Dang it's already looking like frost in IL?!?   I'm in North West MO and weather still looks okay for the next 14 days at least, forecasted to be low-mid 50's for nights here

18/6 sounds about perfect, I'm far from an expert, but I believe any plant should have some rest time, so I wouldn't personally run a 24/0 ever.    I read somewhere that they say 8/4 schedule is the best for peppers, but that is a pain for most people running that crazy schedule!   I know many...

seeds Leggy seedlings keep getting longer

I watch my plants closely, I actually only have a TINY grow this year, I just bought lights for supplemental lighting as in the summer I only got 3-3.5 hours of direct sunlight, so I run my lights 12 hours or so a day.  Now with winter coming, I think I barely get 2 hours of direct light :( ...

Guys guys, relax, we need to worry about real problems!  Like the dangerous drug Mairjuana, the government told me its bad!

seeds Leggy seedlings keep getting longer

When you say that, do you mean on all plants, or just seedlings?  I thought flourescents should be as close as they can without overheating the plant? I keep my CFL's 1/2" or so away from my fully grown pepper plants, all around it, but this winter I'll be starting indoors from seeds using...

seeds When do y'all normally start seeds?

Thanks! I'll probably start some a little earlier than that, and start more every 2-3 weeks so I know I'll have proper plants to put out! lol I might end up getting a shop light, I like having all my CFL's in "clamp lights" so I can angle them all around my plants, depending on how much I grow...

seeds When do y'all normally start seeds?

By starting do you mean starting without "grow lights" or something?  Just curious as I'm still learning! I really would like to start and have my plants growing before I put them out next season.  I want to get a jump start as I don't get much sunlight.  I plan on starting seeds at various...

    health Black spots/specs on peppers/leaves

I didn't want to make my own post and clog the forum....  But like (4-5 days ago) I saw this crazy infestiona over most of my watermelon vines (grown in a storage tote) only 3-4 foot from my peppers in buckets...  They are definitely bugs, I don't know how they blew up so fast, I check my plants...

Your Jalapenos are growing great!  They almost look like they are catching up to mine!  Now you have me questioning why mine are growing so slow haha

First Hot Peppers and First Plant Of Any Kind - Need Advice

My plants have been outside, I do think I overwater a bit, and my soil has compacted and doesn't drain worth a shit, but the season is almost over, so I'll ride it out for now.   Just a few minutes ago I asked a friend of a friend what seeds he had, he had told me that he had hot pepper seeds...

First Hot Peppers and First Plant Of Any Kind - Need Advice

I'm intrigued to follow your over winter process!  Plants look great! Did you get your fungus gnat problem under control?  I'm facing a bad fungus gnat problem currently, was planning on over wintering my Jalapeno plant but might chop it down at first frost if I can't take care of them.

Dollar for dollar I believe LED's provide more per watt.  Like I said, not an expert.  Years ago when I grew cannabis using florescents, I'd run florescents up the walls along the sides of my plants, as they don't penetrate.  But I could grow massive plants at a fraction of the cost of a 1,000w...

    Light duration

I'm no expert, but the most light you can give the better!  (well to a point).  I'd say 12-18 hours of light would be ideal.  Make sure you watch the temp, 400w can heat a room, it's like a small space heater.   My pepper plants were dropping flowers like crazy in July, I believe due to temps...

First time grower, outdoor, and trying to overwinter!

My one fresh looking melon haha....  This thing is growing super fast..  I guesstimated the vine to be around 8 foot long, it measures a little over 13 foot LOL....   My other melon on the same plant is about ready to harvest, I'm ancy to harvest it, as I now once its cut off, this melon will...

First time grower, outdoor, and trying to overwinter!

So I chopped my "Sugar baby" melons down, they hadn't put out female flowers in over a month, and only produced 3 SAD looking melons (softball sized), but they tasted great!  Too bad I had to pick through 6 million seeds to eat anything..   My other Crimson sweet only has one fully set melon...
