I'm late to this party, but I'll put my two cents worth in. Last year I grew the Baker Creek version:
That's it on the far right. It was about the size of a small jalapeno, most of them with blunt tips instead of pointed tips. It was just a tiny smidgeon less hot than the SB I grew (at the...
Yea, it might just be some some kind of habanero they gave a fancy name... they do sell what they call a mustard habanero, though. Maybe the heat is lower, or it doesn't have a strong habanero taste. Either way, I'll give it a try and see.
I've got all but one pepper up and running. The Cristal pepper came up as a helmet head, and I got a little too enthusiastic about fixing it and it bit the dust. I started it again, so soon as it pops I'll get it going... I'm not worried as I am still picking peppers here all the way into late...
Good luck, also! I'm looking forward especially to your Yaki Blue Fawn. I bought seeds for this from Semillas La Palma and it didn't get into this year's grow. It definitely will get planted next year.
Yea, actually back in 2021 I ordered this and Cappuccino Habanero seeds from WHP. He gave me as freebies a Bih Jolokia Caramel and the infamous Marabella Market Caramel SB, which we all know I grew that year and last year (from a cutting). I'm FINALLY getting around to growing it this year. I'm...
I think you're right on time... I always stagger my sowings. I start my superhots first... I have two that are up, and three more on the heat pad. I'll have the rest of them started by the first week of February. I live in Alabama and like you in Texas, we have a LONG season.
I just stumble upon them, really. I'll start looking for a particular pepper or maybe happen onto some vendor's website. If I see something unusual or interesting, I'll go for it. I'm one of those folks that like to grow something no one else would think of trying.
I grew a T-Rex Mustard last year that did the same thing. Same soil mix, fertilizer, location, everything the exact same as all my other peppers. It was a healthy plant, too. It went ALL SUMMER LONG dropping blooms. I didn't get a single pod off the plant. I have never had that happen before...
Thank you for the kind words @MikeUSMC. Yep, I grew that pepper last year and really liked it a lot. It got damaged in some storms, so I didn't get near the yield I was hoping for. If it would have stayed intact I bet I easily would have gotten 100+ pods from it. It had a really nice flavor...
