    heat Hottest Opinion

I would say chocolate primotalii. But I remember a red moruga scorpion pepper that made my ears ring(!). RB 003 is also up there!

fermenting Should I make a mash or brine ferment?

I would say that brine is the most foolproof method. If you keep everything submerged, you should be good. I would go up to 3,5% salt as well.

    yield Small pods

Hi, sometimes size does matter ;) There could be a few different reasons. The first fruits on a plant are often small. And with a short season like we have in northern Europe and with cold temperatures and little sun... you sometimes end up with just small fruits. When the plant is established...

Guru's Garden - Traveling the World in Search of Peppers

I just watched this video on my TV last night. Incredibly well made my friend! Highly recommended!

    hydroponic Finally a solution !

Looking great! Its a fun way to grow :) But personally, I found it too much work to refill all the small containers. So I only do BIG kratky for peppers now, and use small soil containers for breeding projects etc Scotch brains yellow.... I miss that one. Need to put it on the list again ;)

“Okay, I reckon the hare gets fucked”

Hi Bou, I haven't been active here for a long time, but now im finally back to growing again! I hope we can exchange some seeds after the season like we talked about :) It's so fun to follow your crosses and honest reviews! Thats how we all should do it :)

fermenting Fermenting mash with little to no brine?

I produce hot sauce for a living now, and we always make a mash like you do here. You can also experiment by adding other ingredients immediately and letting them ferment together. 5% salt should be plenty though ;) Yeast is something you probably will struggle with in the beginning. It's...

    flavor Sugar Rush flavor?

It's sad to hear about deception, but not surprising. Not many honest vendors left. Fowler I have had only good experience with. Bought seeds from him twice, and received a lot more than ordered. I always thought he was honest, but I have seen a few people mention him in bad words lately. I...

chinense I'm confused about the Datil pepper

I also grew the "wrong" Datil and was corrected when posting pictures online. Now I have exchanged some seeds with a friendly local Augustine grower (https://www.instagram.com/the_pepper_passion/) so fingers crossed! The description of this pepper sounds so delicious. Scotch Bonnets are maybe...

    food-safety Is this Kahms yeast?

Sorry for my bad explanation. It depends on what you want to achieve with this fermentation. Is it only peppers that you are fermenting for conservation / hot sauce? I would prefer to take the peppers out. Give them a rinse and then use them like you had planned. If you have yeast it means...

    food-safety Is this Kahms yeast?

I can't be certain from the photos, but it looks like Kahm to me. Not dangerous, but my experience is that it will only get worse, and really change the flavor. If you stop the ferment now and use a spoon to remove the top you might save it. That is what I would do. I'm really impressed that...

    flavor Sugar Rush flavor?

I disagree strongly. I only grow chilies / hot peppers for their flavor and have grown about 100 varieties every year in search of the best flavors. I have never been a big fan of c.baccatum, thats why I have only grown about 20 different varieties over all the years Ive been growing, so Im no...

chinense Is there a favored Mexican orange habanero?

It changes daily, but some of my favorites eaten fresh are Oxkutzcabian Orange, Sugar Rush Peach / Peppapeach, different scotch bonnets, Cumari do Para, Fatalii, Bhut Jolokia White, Yellow Naga (Drax) and many others I love sweet/tropical/fruity c.chinense without any chemical/bitterness. All...

chinense Is there a favored Mexican orange habanero?

In the last few years, I have grown around 100+ varieties every season, searching for the best flavors. And for me, the Oxkutzcabian Orange is in my top 10 list :). Absolutely fantastic flavor, that sort of reminds me more of sugar rush peach than an orange habanero. And a very productive plant...

    breeding Impotence in Capsicum?

I haven't seen anything quite like this, but I have experienced sterile plants before. This season I had a fantastic Carboruga Yellow plant, that just grew MASSIVE. Perfect looking plant, FULL of flowers, but not a single fruit ever took. I tried everything with this plant, but in the end I...

    baccatum Soapy Baccatum Taste

Its interesting that so many of you describe the baccatum flavor as soapy. Im not a big fan of baccatums, because to me they taste "grassy". I wonder if that is the same flavor you are talking about, but experienced differently by my tastebuds. SRP / Peppapeach and Aji fantasy white are the...
