Have you had your soil tested? If not I would a get a professional test your your county extension service. They will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about your soil. In FL it is $7 for a U-FL test that tells Phosphorus Potassium Calcium Magenseium and a few other things in PPM...
Is anyone else growing Aji Ahuachapáu? I am and MAN is this one early baccatum I will soon Have some ripe peppers from it in couple of days. Also the pods are very large and long for a baccatum.
This pepper rocks!!! It should be on every northern gardeners list of baccatums.
I agree with ajijoe 12-18 inches per pepper plant is fine in the rows. BUT I space at least 4ft between rows. This gives me great production and I have room to walk and bend over (although by the end of season I a mainly standing up) and pick the pods.
I have not posted here in a while But here is an update all varieties that I am planting this year have been germinated and are up. Most are now in 4" pots and some are even in the ground. I have banana peppers and jalapenos blooming with many blooms. Most baccatums and annums are over 1 ft tall...
You should grow the following baccatums everyone likes them around here
pimenta cambuci (baccatum)
aji cristal (c baccatum)
aji benito (c baccatum)
I would also grow some paprika Peppers like alma paprika or feher ozon
I use a mix of 45% peat 20% perlite 35% steam treated mushroom compost. It works well for me and seems to hold the right amount of moisture. Also I wick water my seed trays.
I have some seeds that I planted on 10/20/2011 They are old some from 2005 - 2008 mainly c. baccatum and annum my question is how long should I wait for them pop up? Would a month be enough time? Or should I wait longer? What is the longest you have ever had a pepper take to germinate?
Thanks...

I see these on my fruit trees. I leave them alone because they are great pollinators. They usually just pick one tree and stick to it. They really don't much damage but the leaves look nasty.
I grow mine in a greenhouse That gets high 80s during the day and high 50s to low 60s at night. They seem to grow fine with those temps. But I would not go any lower than 50 for a growing temp.
It could be pepper mild mottle virus or could be herbicide damage Looks like either of those to. Are any of the fruit disformed? Has been any round up or other herbicides sprayed around them?
got any seeds left that you still need tasted I am a non smoker interested in c baccatum types. Also I live in fl and have long season to fully grow them out to full ripeness and harvest lots of pods.
ok Here it is my master grow list for 2012 This is a preliminary it will most likely grow. As I get new seeds or find old goodies. I have sown most of these already.

Just wondering why everyone one grows so many superhots? Some people are only growing these. All I mainly see in the market place is superhots and the sell really well too. These seem to be all everyone wants. Why?? For those who grow these what do you do with them?? Surely you can't eat them...
