The new growth was looking very leggy, so I trimmed it back. A week later, I have no leaves and the green woody stems are now brown. Did I kill my plant or just knock it into full dormancy? Thanks for any help. -Gerry

3/5: I had my plants in 4 gallon containers and they moved easily into the bags without disturbing the rootball much got all their soil in there plus some. So far they're doing great. Though I did just look over to see a couple gnats flying around them.

I'd be careful which leaves you use for that if they haven't been thoroughly composted. The red coloring in maple leaves come from a natural herbicide that they use to minimize competition at the ground level. Other's may have something similar, I'm not sure.
