    Guru's 2013

I built tomato cages this year using concrete reinforcing wire. 100 bucks for a 100 by 5 foot roll. Best bang for your buck and able to make 14 in a couple hours. Still have half the roll if you are driving through dc anytime soon!. I will say that although you can get in to the shoulder, it...

    Rock Dust?

I used AZOMITE this year. I have a very strong season, but much of that is probably due to favorable weather and general improvement in my skillz and experience. That being said, I think it's a good ammendment if you are really looking to live of your land. Lots of trace elements that...

Hmm. Wiki seems to think that Epsom is PH neutral, so not sure how much that will help.

water Who else has high PH public water?

My public water here in Alexandria VA is on the 8+ side of the equation. (Not what they report, but home testing and observation don't lie). Every year at this time I get lockout due to a build up in my soil. Just did a test with my Lamotte soil testing kit and sure enough, deep purple!. Tell...

The Corno di Toro peppers I have harvested are quite hot. Some where around 3 or 4 X hotter than the jalapenos so far. Quute interesting! They are really growing true in terms shape. Must be some kind of cross. Pretty cool pepper, gonna save seeds!

AMG's 2013 Grow! Pods Pods Pods. Overdue Update.

Hello THP.  I must admit i have been a pretty bad glogger.  First update since plant out! Overall, considering the high temps and very wet weather, i am very pleased with the season so far.  Very impressed with how my peat-free mix has handled the weather extremes.  Composted pine bark fines is...

AMG's 2013 Grow! Pods Pods Pods. Overdue Update.

Yea, I thought for sure it would be fine, little less confident now with the 10 day forecast. Lows in the low to mid 40s. All those 85 degree days we had made me pick this past weekend to plant out. Couldn't convince myself to wait another week!

AMG's 2013 Grow! Pods Pods Pods. Overdue Update.

Hello THP, Plant out day is always one of the most exciting of the year. It was a hard days work, but we got pretty much everything planted out. The container blend is 2 parts Pine Bark Fines, 1/2 part Lobster Compost, 1/2 part organic no-peat potting soil, 1/2 part Perlite, and the...

What Mistakes Have You Made This Season?

Didn't drill holes big enough in my solo cups. Having some minor issues with uneven uptake of water when I bottom water. Some holes are clear, some are blocked. Have had to top water on those, resulting in some gnat problems.
