    organic Organic discussion

I think that may be because it's a social media paradigm. It's far less intuitive than having an actual dedicated forum. What percentage of actual users regularly deploy tags? (there must be a metric for that) I work in tech, and I go out of my way to avoid tech-y nonsense when I'm off the...

container What to put at the top of my pots?

Please do clarify your "root issues" comment, then. You love to add content, and troll responses, but seldom do you engage an actual discussion. As someone who has been top dressing containers for as long as I've used containers, I'm intrigued to tap your vast knowledge, so that I can know...

lighting Question about light for chile plants in grow tent

In general, for just getting your grow on, set your dials to whatever produces roughly 6500K of color temp. If you want to nerd out, get yourself a PAR meter, and start looking to optimize the amount of light that reaches specific levels of the plant. I don't know what that is. But there is...

container What to put at the top of my pots?

Does anyone actually have an example of a top dress of clippings causing root rot? I mean, we're talking about plant matter, not clay. And it breaks down. How thick do you think you'd have to lay down grass clippings, to make it rot plants - assuming that you don't live in an area that gets...

container What to put at the top of my pots?

I have a yard that I use no pesticides or herbicides in. I throw everything into either my compost pile, or a top dress on my plants. So yes, you can.

lighting Question about light for chile plants in grow tent

It means that "veg" and "bloom" literally don't apply to any plant is capable of, and desire to be, everbearing. When you do a "bloom", you are inducing an artificial death cycle. You try to replicate the conditions that are present in the end of lifecycle for a plant - or any organism...

    fertilizer N-P-K Levels.

Don't get carried away with NPK numbers. It's the least important thing in your grow (unless, of course, you get something completely lopsided). Keep it simple, and stick with a balanced fertilizer. Work on optimizing your growing environment, and let the rest be as easy as it is.

health Nutrient problems, or dying plants?

You have to season biochar before use. If yo don't, will just pull available nutrients out of your soil/media,and induce deficiencies. Not unlike what's being shown in the picture. Suggest you do a quick google search for "charge biochar"t

overwintering Extending the season - peppers everyday?

Yes sir, no mistake about that. It's just that if you could real life compare my zone with the bay area, you'd think that whoever came up with that system, was full of shite. 😆

overwintering Extending the season - peppers everyday?

So, funny thing about zones... I'm in the same/similar zone, on the other side of the country, and we don't get nearly as chilly as you. Mine don't really go dormant, except when we get the occasional freak cold. Everything gets yellow and ugly, but then they wake right back up, when the warm...

    media method to buffer coco?

I honestly wouldn't mess with pH adjusting that - especially if it's going into a mix. And even more so, if you're going to keep it an organic grow (but still, if it were me, I'd not mess with it, anyway) However, for buffering coco, just use anything with more than 4% calcium, let it soak for...

    media method to buffer coco?

You couldn't be more wrong. Buffering is important. That's why bagged coco comes pre-buffered. Otherwise, you're playing a guessing game with dosing on the fly, and never really knowing what your media is locking up, vs what your plant is getting. You don't buffer coco once it's planted out...

    container Grow bags vs. Pots.

I put forth the proposition here once, that the way the roots formed - and especially later in the grow - actually contribute to container drainage (and I maintain that notion). There were a few that thought I was crazy. But I'm quite certain that you'll find it to be true, over and over...

off-topic The Year of Volcanoes ??

If by "sign of the times", you mean the penultimate conclusion of Earth's tectonic plates being undermined by aeons of ceaseless activity - then I'd be inclined to say that you're probably spot on...

    overwintering Bonchi from last year

Just curious what makes you take that approach, as opposed to using the coarser mix throughout? I would think that for such a small plant, one wouldn't want to impede drainage by mixing media types. I've just started growing with bonsai mix indoors, for plants that have no chance of going...

pests Whiteflies on small pepper plant

I don't want to have a long protracted discussion over semantics - so I'll go straight to my point. The "sunburn" effect - whereby water droplets, standing on leaves, causes the leaf to burn locally - is a myth, pure and simple. That does not happen. Even good sense should tell us this, as if...

pests Whiteflies on small pepper plant

I still say that the OP needs to identify which species of whitefly they have in their area. We shouldn't take for granted that our domestic varieties are the same as those from other places. Not all whitefly are created equally (I'm saying that while dealing with about 3 different species...
