glog 1st time Growing Zimbabwe Bird๐ŸŒถ๏ธ

I've started a few seeds, I got from Amazon.๐Ÿคจ
IMG_20240615_180734_675.jpg

I've seen some call Zimbabwe
Anuum and some people say they are
fructescens
That doesn't matter too much.
I'm going to try to grow them up to fruit and save seeds for sharing and collecting pollen for breeding.
Also I want to hear from people that have grown Zimbabwe Bird Peppers. Any advice on growing these is much appreciated.
Maybe help confirm that I have an actual Zim .
Because I got the seeds from Amazon ๐Ÿ˜†

Here's my 2 babies

I might need help growing them
I will be posting pics of the grow process.
Thanks

Yeah but No
The point of poking

Holes in my soil and all that
Was to try to get them to survive until I see roots out the bottom.
Remember?
I'm hoping they fill out the pot so I can transplant them into a bigger pot
๐Ÿ‘

Then I can finish using this pot that is on its last limbs.

I will take your advice on using new soil but,
Season 8 Episode 3 GIF by THE NEXT STEP

If I'm going to do that ,
I will use another seed and a different Pot๐Ÿ˜œ

Stay tuned

I decided to eliminate the Periwinkle
But I am keeping the other weed.

I heard rocks used as mulch works for insect repellent.

Well..
IMG_20240930_155727_710.jpg

It helped in the plant's recovery

I think the rocks fixed it.๐Ÿ˜Š

The runt in 1/2 litre pot again a small " Y"

Hi Guy's

I've now got 3 of the 4 Zimbabwe bird chillies in flower :D

The little Runt has buds but no flowers yet ..................

Nothing remarkable or unusual in the above ..........however this leads me to the reason for today's post two of the plant's have pure white flowers the third is white with purple edges

14030fd4-67cb-4939-88ae-bfc28b363800-1_all_10800.jpg

Two plant's have these beautiful Pure white flowers which I'm assuming is the colour they should be ?

The third plant has these gorgeous purple edged flowers โค๏ธ:think: but I'm pretty sure it shouldn't !

Any ideas ? Accidental cross ? Natural variation ?

I'd welcome input

Looks like I'm going to have to keep a close eye on this oddity.............

This is annuum var glabriusculum. Capsicum frutescens has small greenish flowers similar to chinense.
The flavour and heat are very similar to frutescens. The texture is somewhat different when ripe though: frutescens are mushy with small seeds and annuum var glabriusculum are thinner-fleshed with large hard seeds.
I used to grow frutescens but found that annuum var glabriusculum is better suited to my climate (temperate) as frutescens is more a subtropical taxon.

Hey @RobStar, I'm going to hijack this thread for a second (sorry @HerbCasa): to your knowledge, would you associate these flowers (small and greenish) to Capsicum frutescens? Not sure what I have here as it was supposed to be a C. chinense. Might also be a cross, IDK...

Hey @Bou that fits in the range of chinense. I wouldn't be concerned, it looks about right.
Capsicum frutescens flowers are really small and the petal margins are somewhat rolled inwards (the petals look like little boats). When you see them you will instantly know!

Ok, so only smaller than the average C chinense flowers! Thanks a lot๐Ÿ‘Œ

Hi Guy's

Some of my Zim birds are going to new homes on Monday ๐Ÿฅฒ

I just noticed the 3 with pure white flowers are all producing upward pointing pod's

But the one with purple edges on the flower's are down facing............

I'm assuming the purple tinge plant is a cross...................

Interesting but I'll probably let it go simply due to space limitations....๐Ÿ˜—

I was able to switch the plants into a similar sized pot with different soil and I took the rocksoft.

The plants are barely photogenic and still pests damaged.๐Ÿ˜’

Zimbabwe bird chilli the next generation ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ˜Š coming along nicely ๐Ÿ‘

A few are ear marked for friends and I'll probably keep a couple to play with possibly a small kratky hydroponic and a soil one.

Hi Guy's

All this years spare Zims are in new homes all on window legdes I keep getting updates ๐Ÿ™‚

The single Zim I kept and transferred into kratky hydroponics is a bit behind its brothers and sisters who are all indoors most have tons of buds a a few flowers !

However I'm not worried as the transfer to kratky probably upset it a little plus it's been outside in the greenhouse for a month or more now .......day time highs 25 oC - 28oC but night temps of 4oC -7oC

0a113318-b41a-4aa4-8695-0d0bb04efaa3-1_all_12004.jpg

My Zim now in a 5 litre kratky in a 3" net pot this will be it's final home.

0a113318-b41a-4aa4-8695-0d0bb04efaa3-1_all_11996.jpg

It doesn't have a mass of roots yet a only few air roots but I'm expecting it to go crazy soon ! ๐Ÿคช

How's your Zims doing.........๐Ÿค”
