$20

So, I stopped to get gas on the way home tonight. It was busy when I got there, but by the time I finished fueling, the parking lot had pretty much emptied out. The pump credit card thingie was broken, so I went inside to pay. One my way out...there was a $20 bill on the ground.

I picked it up and looked around, but there was truly no one left in the parking lot but me and this rough looking guy on a bicycle who held up the line inside trying to harangue the clerk into giving a discount on cigarettes and asking about every kind of lottery ticket before picking some out. So, feeling slightly guilty, I pocketed the money.

Its a Blessing when something like that happens....................... oh by the way did it have a picture of andrew jackson on the front? If it did ITS MINE lol

I've got5 a tory for this but the beer in me is dissalowing me to write it all out. Needless to say, I'll do it tomarrow. But you were in the right.

Drinking it now I presume ;)

No, it's still in my coat pocket. I know it's silly, and the person who lost it was gone by the time I got outside. It's just that there were plenty of times in my life when $20 meant the difference between making ends meet and not.

And it's not like I've never found money before. I find money all the time, I always have. Found a $5 by a water fountain in the park when I was about 4 or 5, and since then I've found money in odd places, out walking the dogs, etc. I guess what bothers me about this one is that it was probably still warm from the hand that dropped it.

I could translate that, but I don't want to.

I figure if you have ever had a $20 fall out of a pocket or purse. Then it is just being returned. It's not like you can post a sign "found: lost money call 1-800-I'm an idiot"

understand the look around part Pam...I did the same...looked around and put a 50 in my pocket...and this was in 74...lot of money back then...was delivering goods for havatampa wholesale center and made a delivery...was raining cats and dogs...ran back to my delivery van and as I was getting in the van...this 50 was just floating in the runoff coming under my truck...yup...grabbed it, looked around...no one there...put it in my pocket and smiled....

i always return money when i've been given too much change, and i've chased down people when i see they've dropped money/things (and it sounds like you do too..) but money with nobody in sight (nobody you have a reasonable expectation that it's theirs, that is...) is different i guess. i'd feel sorry for the person who lost it too i suppose, but there really isn't anything to feel guilty about. if you can't stop the guilt tho just donate it to charity. or buy a friend a present.

Ok, here's my thing

*FLASHBACK* (No not acid induced...although I've had two so far and boy are they fun!)

I had been in LA for about 5 months and was flat broke. I didn't have a dime to my name and I was waiting for a paycheck to come for my last acting gig. I had NO food and on top of that I'm hypoglysemic (sp?). Sice I was jones for a cigertte (I don't smoke anymore btw) and had none. I decided to walk down to Ralph's (grocery store) that was two blocks away and pick some butts out of the ashtray (gross I know, but when you are desperate...).

At the end of my street was a shopping cart that contained bags. Some dishwasher detergent, milk, a bag of dog food and a bag of Bacon Bits Dog Treats. I looked around and there was no one around. I waited for a minute, still no one. I said if that's there by the time I get back, it's mine.

Went down to Ralph's and satasfied my nicotine craving, came back. Sure as shit it was still there. I waited another three minutes. Looked around again and made off with the stash.

That kept me fed (and my cloths clean) for the next week.

So, while it sucks that so people leave things out or loose stuff. Sometimes it goes to a really good use. As long as you do the look around for whoever lost it and there is no one. Then you are in the clear.

I'm the same, I was very under-charged in a shop once but had to point out that it should cost a lot more  My Mum said "You're a silly cow, keep your mouth shut next time". I would have picked up the money though, but I'd be so worried that someone was spying on me that I'd have walked back into the store and bought something quickly so who ever 'might' have seen me would think I'd handed it in. I'd still feel bad though until I spent it.

Yeah, I always tell if I was given too much change. And the last time I was in Lowe's the little girl missed a Mandavilla on the cart. She got sidetracked by a problem with some peat pots that wouldn't ring up. I got all the way to the car before I looked at the receipt, but I went back.

I think I'll use the $20 to hire the Puppy au Pair to do some house cleaning. She always needs money, and my house always needs cleaning.

Whenever I find some money floating around, I usually use it to go something nice for someone deserving. I think that way I get to keep the good karma flowing.

I was leaving HArris Teeter one day after work and there was two 12 packs of Coors Light on the bottom of a cart in the cart corral. Looked around, no one seemed to be looking after it. Then I thought, "ick, coors lite", and I left it there. This is a true story.

Oh man I have done that before, but with an actual good beer, it leaves you with a terribly empty feeling when you get home. Now it rides in the kid seat in the cart right by me, unless my kid is in there, then he just keeps pointing at it saying "Daddy's juice!" Man I love the boy!! HAHA

You could put an ad in the paper saying you found $20 - see if anyone claims it
you could wait for the next person to walk passed and let them pick it up.

Or you could say woohoo - a gift
