It's never too early to get started!

Sooo... 2022 season is over and most of my 2023 plants are already there - no reason not to start a new thread already! 😃

While all my current plants are technically overwinterers, only a couple have grown through the 2022 season and are considered interesting enough to keep for next seasons grow.

Let's start with the famous Schneider farms SB plant, which will be going into it's third season in 2023. It currently doesn't look all that nice but that was also the case during the winter of 2021 so no worries here...

Next in row is my Scotch Brains plant...

And then there's the Humble Servants Homestead (HSH) SB, which was also elected to stay for next season...

Wow Marc that looks gorgeous, shame it doesn't smell like orange blossom

Indeed a shame, I love the smell of orange blossom!

Ah yes, we had a couple of these at my parents' house. Those smell delicious also! Maybe I should plant one also...

Are you familiar with Murraya paniculata? Its flowers have a strong orange-blossom fragrance, especially after thunderstorms in the rainy season. It's a popular ornamental here, but it may not grow well outside of the tropics?

Had to look that up, hadn't heard of it before... apparently/unfortunately not a hardy plant...
It appears to be a member of the rutaceae family, to which citrus also belongs...

Another photo update...

The 7pot brain strain yellow is about the largest plant I have currently. I'm doing my best to keep the size of the plant down (as I'm doing with all my plants) and it seems to work out fine...

SB7J - not really a vigorous grower. Now finally showing some signs of flower development...

Large KSLS - a really beautiful plant. Actually most of my Khang Starr plants are really strong and beautiful. I think I saw a little fruitlet on this plant already. I hope the peppers taste as good as they say...

The Schneider farms SB... not very vigorous grower and doesn't look as nice as some of the other plants. Already growing 4 pods with a 5th just starting...

Piment D'Espelette (left) and Tap De Cortí (right). Not much to say about these. The espelette branches out symmetrically after topping while the Tap is growing an asymmetrical split...

The skinny San Juan Tsile Pueblo (left) is now starting to grow some peppers. Plant on the right is the Ñora which grows asymmetrical after topping...

Carbonero and Kraken scorpion from the last germination round.
...and some Papa Dreadie G3-21 seeds that are just now germinating...

The KSSR (scarlet rose), one of the Khang varieties. Really nice and strong plant...

7pot burgundy (bou-rgundy 😁 ) just starting to branch out after topping...

Scotch Brains 7pot pheno growing some really large leaves...

The "regular" scotch brains...

The KSPS (peach starkist), the 3rd one of the Khang trinity. Strong grower also but not yet as large as the others (started later because it failed in the previous round)...

The HSH scotch bonnet. Growing some really big leaves also...

The second KSLS (lemon starburst) is the runt of the pack. I already had the big KSLS but that came from another seed source while this one came together with the KSSR and KSPS from the same source.

Took all the (large) plants outside today. Some are already struggling with the change but they'll get used to it. Next will inevitably be sunburn as this is the first time they're experiencing full daylight. Too bad but they'll get through that also. Still need to put some of the plants in larger pots but I ran out of soil... 🙄

Little update... not so much...
Growth hasn't really kicked of yet. Night temps are still quite low. It's about time this changes!

Plants have suffered quite a bit of sunburn. I removed most of the burned leaves. I also noticed that the annuums almost didn't suffer from sunburn at all... 🤔

I had to let go the small plants as was to be expected 🙄 The only space I have for my plants is what's shown here and when they grow larger this space will become really crowded so no room for even more plants. I only kept the kraken orange and the carbonero for now (the small ones in the front) but they seriously suffered from sunburn and aren't doing very well so I may let them go also.

The San Juan Tsile Pueblo is still around also, just not visible in this shot. It's still tiny and skinny as before and produces lots of flowers but no new fruits yet other that the one it was already growing.

I still have a bunch of Papa Dreadie and a couple of Beth Boyd Scotch Bonnet seedlings growing (as if I do have room for them when they grow up) but they are still small and kept inside.

Tasted my first ripe pod of the season... a small scotch bonnet from my new schneider farms plant. I liked the taste of the pods from the old plant that I no longer have and I was a bit afraid that the raste of the pods from the new plant was going to be different (as in "stronger chinense taste"). But I'm happy to say that taste was good. 🙂

And so was heat. I didn't realize that I touched the inside of the pod. But after touching some body parts I found out that I must have... :fire:

This is a good jungle for you, Marc.
I can't imagine myself keeping that density of plants clean. I make rows of two so I don't have to bend down too much.

Sunburns are inevitable, but the sun gives our plants so many benefits that it is worth seeing them uglier. Powdered kaolin clay is good to prevent sunburn. Mix 20 grams in 1 liter of water and spray.
Within two weeks you can clean the leaves with a simple spray with water (be careful, it will stain your floor white).

Enjoy your pretty jungle, man.

That's great to hear! - about the taste, that is... :D

My schneider farms sb is lagging the others, but I'm looking forward to trying the pods as you've made them sound very appealing.

Strange, as in my case the schneider is usually one of the first to start producing. Now let's hope you feel the same about their taste 🙂

I usually don't do a lot to keep the "look" of the plants good, other than removing some old leaves every now and then. Sunburn is only an issue withe the leaves that grew on the plants when still inside and is inevitable but at this time they are recovering nicely. I'm also very lucky to have very few issues with pests...

I tasted my very first lemon starrburst pepper today... Wow! It's as good as they say it is! Good taste with no bad (to me) chinense taste at all, and good heat also for the small little pepper it was (about .5" / 12mm). I like it better than the Schneider farms scotch bonnet actually. This will be a very good pepper for my pineapple jam! I'm sold! 😄
I wonder how the peach starrkist and scarlett rose will compare...
