a beginners grow log (chefben4)

I am a new guy to the site and the whole pepper growing thing, or growing at all for that matter. I know I am late but I am going to pick up where I can and kind of start a grow log. I have learned so much from everyones grow logs on here! I figured I'd start my own and get help when needed or suggested.. I very proud of my plants since Im new to this lol, so I hope I'll have a lot of pics to post.

Here is my list this year (for a first timer I think I got carried away, but live and learn!)

Tabasco Chili
Red Bell
Green Bell
Jalepeno
Habenero
Pepperonchini
Gypsy
Nu Mex Big Jim
Trinadad Scorpion
Belgium Carrot
Chocolate Bhut Jolokia
Hot Cherry Pepper

As you can see in the pictures I am growing them in a multitude of ways... Earthbox (bucket in my case), Garden, Hydroponic drip system, and containers. Will post some more pics soon.

Enjoy!

Welcome to the pepper growing club chefben4. You may have a tough time getting the ones planted in the ground to maturity in your region but I wish you luck.

Would you mind explaining the earthbox growing method? First time I've heard of it. Thanks.

Well the earthbox, in my case earth bucket is kind of a selfwatering container garden. I have a deck which recieves great sun so I decided to try a few methods. Here is a link that I kind of went off of, but have altered mine a few ways: Earthbox

The garden pic was from about 3-4 weeks ago so I am hopefull that they reach maturity... Staying positive!

Edit: Dont want to hijack the thread with pics of my plants.

Plants are looking good chef!

Thanks Phadrus! Since I'm new to the whole growing thing I keep wanting to mess with them! With the help of a bunch of people on here Ive been doing a good job of leaving them alone! Except for the hydroponic set up, I check that (pH, TDS) every few days and change the nutrient every 2 weeks..

Thanks for the pics. Looks like there doing just fine. I like the container. Looks like a challenge and lots of fun to do..

From one new guy to another looks great and you're having fun. Guess I'll have to start a new post with my stuff this weekend (pretty run of the mill varieties for the first time this year). Sure enjoying all the info here and looking forward to expanding next year.

Very nice looking plants you have. In no way did you get carried away with the varieties. I have over 100 plants and I am also a first time grower LOL Where in Michigan are you at?

I live in Southeastern Michigan about 20 miles north of Detroit. Will be posting a few more pics this afternoon hopefully! I took some updated pics yesterday! Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

Took some pictures last weekend. The plants seem to be looking pretty good. Something is munching on my leaves but hopefully I have taken care of the problem. I assume they were aphids. I also have seen spider mites but im not certain what they do, but I took care of the hopefully as well!

Plants are looking real good CB4 congrats. That hab in the earthbucket is going to be one bushy pod producing monster for you!

Very happy to report I am finally seeing pepper pods! Below are some pics (not very good ones) but I am real excited! Noticed the plants in my garden have spider mites all over them. Tried insecticidal soap (safe for veggies) and the mites laughed. Any ideas how to get rid of these D%@! things?
