I noticed a trend to use acronyms in posts that I didn't recognize, an example is:

I don't know about anyone else but I haven't a clue what ACV means in this case. so I'm adding another section to the topic, General. I'm asking anyone that runs across a head scratchier post in in this topic and hopefully we'll decipher...
 
So PMD, what does that mean? TIA!

ACV in the above post, I think they had set it out as a fruit fly trap.

F1 = Filial generation 1
BC1 = backcross generation 1
 
I assume this would mean an F1 was back-crossed with one of the F1's parents, but I typically see this expressed simply as "BC1," with the use of an F1 assumed.  Further backcross generations would be BC2, BC3, etc.

There's a lot, and as warrantman said, some have other meanings in other lives.
