Adding variety to my garden and table

Stumbled across your wonderful forum while searching for info on wiri wiri peppers. We are attempting these for the first time in our gardens.

Live in beautiful southeastern Ontario and have a roommate that loves heat too. Her portuguese boyfriend is a great maker of hot sauces and preserved peppers.

Sadly, one of our favourites came from an italian neighbour of his who has since moved into a nursing home, so she was not selling bedding plants the last couple of springs. Despite many hours searching online, we never did identify it.

We've not had to much luck starting from seeds ourselves, but great success in growing everything except jalapenos. For some reason the rabbits always nibble off every blossom, but leave all the other ones alone.

My passion is cooking, and I enjoy and cook food from many nations, and I like the nuances that difference peppers bring to the table.

I think I'm really a beginner in the pepper world, and looks like I have lots to learn here.

Hi and welcome from western Massachusetts.
Lots of folks here that love to cook with heat that are willing to share what they know. What did the peppers look like that you got from your Italian friend? Do you have any pictures? In addition to a number of varieties of Cayenne pepper, I know of the larger Corno de Toro, round cherry peppers and the wrinkled, yellow Pepperoncini that are grown in Italy. Pictures would probably help someone here identify what you're looking for. Cheers!

Welcome from SW-MO -- I have heard that some cayenne powder mixed with water and sprayed on the plants will keep some of the varmints away. Could give that a try. Best of luck to you!
 
Thanks for all the warm (or super-hot) welcomes! Unfortunately my roomies BF gets doing things while drunk and sometimes fails to sterilize jars properly. There's a couple of fizzy or fuzzy ones we will try to use as repellent for the bunnies and the cat that thinks we have the perfect sandbox.
 
Welcome. My Dad has always had problems with Rabbits attacking his Vegetable garden. That is why I decided to plant my precious's in 5 gallon SIP's to keep them off the ground. You may want to give it a try with your Jalapeños.
