Advise growing Kale/Collard/broccoli in the summer.

I really want to plant some this summer but these are winter plants and some say become very bitter during the summer months. Anyone here grow these in the summer months? Will shade cloth help?
 
shade for sure.  as much as possible.  and do not let them bolt - when it gets hot they  will go to flower - gotta catch em and eat them before else they are bitter. 
 
the kale probably won't bolt until the following year, but doesn't hurt to choose heat tolerant variety. kale does become bitter, but I'm sure you can handle it. during the summers I normally use mine in smoothies.
 
I just ordered 5 varieties of heat tolerant lettuce and now I'm going to add some heat tolerant spinach to that list. Look it up I'm sure they have heat tolerant varieties of what you are looking for with your plants
