So you only add about 8% new mix to the old each year?
AlabamaJack said:yes, thats about it...maybe 40 bags max...after the season is over, I pull up the plants, shake off the roots and pile the dirt up...I cover it with black plastic thru the winter then about the middle to end of january, I will take the plastic off of it...
I have had no problem with recycling the soil yet...when I started with the 20 yds, it was 40% cushion sand and 60% fresh compost...last year it was better and this year it is better yet because the compost has really composted...I can't tell you how many grubs I pulled out of it when I was transplanting and countless earthworms in the soil...grubs went on the ground for the mockingbirds to eat and earthworms stayed where they were...

Silver_Surfer said:Thanks AJ, that explains alot. You have an army of earthworms working overtime creating worm castings for you.

Thanks AJ, I only have 10 plants and mix two, 2 gallon containers of "Expert Gardener" powder (10-52-10) at a quarter teaspoon per/gallon of water with a tablespoon of Epsom Salt per/gallon. The four gallons works for about 3 to 7 days depending on how much rain we have. I only use it when the pots get dry. The plants seem to get along well with it.AlabamaJack said:FloridaSun...I have switched to 7-14-7 feed that I just side dress with now then water it in...I put about a Tbsp in each container and then just scatter handfuls in the raised beds...I feed about every 3-4 weeks...
