MoA (but another half-6 of that from Walkgood/Ramon and Steve); 3. Tabasco (mine) 4. Bahamian Goat (Greg PIC1), and 5. JA Hab (Ramon/Walkgood)

Many thanks to Mike Rote/Barley_Pop for jerky   :drooling:  and Jason/GA Growhead, for sending me my own Orange Thai seed and the hottest damn powder I've ever had! :onfire: Also, thank you, John, Ark/Saw for the Harbor Freight coupons for "torch to burn honeysuckle roots." And everybody who has, via PM or otherwise, encouraged, offered ideas on new, additional growing space: fence is gone and if no rain, fell, limb, buck and split with two splitters 8 big trees, Maple, 4 Hickories, Pecan, Black Walnut, Poplar NEXT WEEKEND!

Also, would like ideas on that new (additional) space (100'+ x 50')  with stumps, most are to side except Maple. 1. burn 2. grind (cost prohibitive and don't think rented grinder would get it but might if ya'll have any ideas) 3. Work around them this year . . . raised beds, ugh, the work or level with huge dump truck topsoil. And again, work around what's left of stumps. Rip it in Feb. REALLY rich humus in half that on the "lots of trees" side: 25' x 100'+. Also, high side. Have considered dozer/bucket end of my and cousin's tractor just to help level and "share the wealth" of humus.

Hope everybody has kick-butt 2014 GROW! :fireball:

Glad to see your back.. hope you're feeling well soon!

Your yellow scorp pods look great, as do the king nagas. How's the taste on those yellow scorps?

Hiya Adam! Glad to be able to get out and do a little; as Pot says below, sitting on butt drives one insane. Tell ya everything about t.v. ya already knew. See? That was fast. (Decided to maybe off meself before going into nursing home if I get that far: I couldn't do it: lotta things ya discover basically sitting around.) Tried to go Buddhist with it but that goes so far and then  re-read old "Chink's" monologue to Sissy in Even Cowgirls Get the Blues and felt normal about going nuts by wearing "shoe"s--no pun intended--that don't fit.

LOVE YOUR GROW! That early plant-out is working GREAT for ya!! (I understand there were some set-backs but . . . excellent STUFF, man!)

Ya mean Y Moruga? Or Yellow 7's been eating green? Or that Y MoA that "fell" into my palm? (Mighta been green but was delicious for green.) I let the Yel Moruga go to fully ripen--already picked a ripening pod off it Friday and left the others alone. Moruga picked Friday tasted tad bitter, as had some green, but I take the first turners off, & eat. Was fruity! Was nice high, nice sweats, burn: something to amuse myself. I let the rabbit take the first turning KNaga off. (Slow learner, that rabbit. But leaves gardens alone. ) I let 2nd KNaga go to turn more. I want a ripe pepper! Been eating them green for temporary pain-relief. One friend--one who helped me down/up taking pics--who's gone to Y7's to pick--have 3 those and 3 Y brains, have eaten them green, for pain killers, along with lots Yellow Cayenne--if you grow any Cayenne, rec that yellow as is hotter and tastier than others, firmer when ripe. PM me your mailing addy, okay? Would like to get you in my THP sender address doc. Not that you need it  but . . . Thanks, Adam!

Hey Kettle,

Knee did good, on it three hours yesterday, no pain or additional swelling. Only a half hour in the garden today, picked and added nutes. Sitting here on my butt is just killing me! Not much to pick after hitting it everyday this week. Tomorrow will be a light day too. I am behaving, are you?

The shoe really is better, albeit kinky as you say ;)  At least you can ice down the foot, believe me a bucket full of ice water is your friend. I think I iced mine for a month after work everyday, because it will swell when you put full weight on it.

You may not heed, but I continue to give it anyway ;)

Yo, Pot! GOOD FOR YOU on resting that knee! And no pain/swelling! Ready for body-surfing. :shame:

The bucket. Yeah. The bucket. Have great one Ma gave me--she's lovin' this as she did a similar thing at my age--and gave me . . . the same bucket she used. She's all: :D Pops has dropped off ice every day, put in cooler, which is so . . . sweet. (Really, it is. But also bringing my cats "treats." I generally just do that occasionally. Since over last month, him doing that, they mutiny around 8 pm for TREATS. More for me to do.) But if I "unlatch" this contraption, the new cloth covered freeze bags that conform are EXCELLENT! How many times you turn that bucket over? I got once, so far, but more maneuverability now.

Spent less than 1/2 hour yesterday. Got some nutes, gallon at time, ready, to feed a few that needed it ahead of front that Cappy mentioned. Need to pick up some molasses at g-store. On list but could only hang so long and missed one of most important items. Used rest yesterday. Really would love to do some compost tea again, ahead this front, but . . . not. I like Jason's revolving AACT program. But while I may be "silly" with doc's orders, not silly enough to go there--if somebody'd do clean-up for me, yes; but don't have that. "Why do I have to put peroxide with the line and stones while pumping and why do I have to Clorox the buckets?" OH NO; "Lurch" WILL NOT! (He'd drink it and grow bigger than is, but not up north where he so desperately needs it.)

Made labels last night for pepper garden on plastic spoons, in bucket-bonding-time  , had Toys in the Attic on auto, LOUD! Running entire system through Peavey with 2 15's @ 11:30 pm. Cops didn't come, dang. So no; "Ain't Misbehavin.'" Not yet.

Devv said:
Is Lurch going to apply the AACT?

Been wanting to make some for a few weeks, will do so once we get back from parental visits.

What's this cold front 'yall are talking about?

Lurch not going near any AACT.

Some are using term "Polar Vortex" (normally applied in winter). Weather and sensationalism? But is supposed to be 10 degrees cooler (or more, but I doubt that) around mid-week here for few days--jet stream drop--but if you search for the PV term LOTS of hits. My dread is storms ahead and behind any front. I doubt anybody in nation freezes and we go all Armageddon. But storms ahead and behind, cells . . . a tad concern but not much do about.

Stefan! Thanks! It's pretty orangish. I got no clue. But still hard, so . . . maybe it stays hard too? Hon, there are some on Choc HG plant that look more true to pic-shapes on your website, but on one's behind, kinda took what could reach. "Maters?" Great! Wow, really uh, great! Prolific. Thank you, dear!

Looks orange indeed, could stay hard I don't have experience with the green phenotype having ripe pods yet ;) Mine look a lot different and more smooth then yours :) Happy the hear the choc HG's is growing true for you and the maters are prolific :D Looking forward to your next update already ;)

Yeah, odd Stefan, I know. But another one has red pod that looks like red Douglah. Picked beans this morning.

Annie,
I just noticed your question on the Red MoA. That looks interesting, certainly not the shape of the pods that I grew....although, they look quite similar to the regular MoA's that are in your photo's. How do the rest of the pods shape up ?

Rest of pods look like should. My only real question is a crazy "Fatalii"--always looked strange, leaves, stem--and now has pods that look like Yellow Jonah or Jonah, WAY more than Fatalii but could have given other Fatalii away to cousin and kept 2 Yellow Jonahs, since planted beside another YJonah.

Lots of problems with starting a new area as large as one I started. I mean, it was a CHORE axing up underground tree limbs coming off that maple--hitting them WAY back from garden area, end of roots, with straight Bayer Brush Advanced, then ripping, brought up more; and then, ripping again, brought up little hairs, raking that up--I was exhausted before I got into planting. But yellow MoAs look exactly same as red on that one plant. Storm coming and that bean-pick ordeal--I HATE to pick beans, but planted/picked for my mother--or I'd take some pics, of that other red "Lisa" and another Red MoA. Gonna rest foot--if the MoA goes yellow when ripe, reckon I'll know! ;)

Will do Annie! Yeah I was thinking about the Yellow Moruga. Very nice looking pepper. Glad to see you're getting some pics out. I'll send you a PM, but come to think of it my address is going to change in a month so maybe I'll update you then!

Got several more pounds of peppers yesterday, including a couple of your long orange's. They look fantastic and have a great texture. Looking forward to trying them. You got any recipe suggestions?

Also, using the brown eggs as a ferment sounds like a wonderful idea to bring out the flavors in the brown morugas. Any recipe suggestions there?

Happy growin!

Adam, you mean the Orange Thai? Those? Jason/GA-GHead has killer idea for ferment on that! I ferment EVATHANG! (Aside from Bill's/Rocketman's Bourbon Fatalii Apple Butter. And I may try one batch that too, just to see, with store bought Fuji apples.) Besides, fermenting gives one some room, time, to do other stuff and dedicate a weekend, as school will be back in for me, and I need weekends to bottle sauces, since sterilization's so critical in bottling/cooking sauces. But more than that, ferments bring out FLAVOR. Personally, I'd ferment the BEgg with enough BMoruga to light it up but keep the flavor of BEgg predominant with heat of BMoruga. Add cup or < organic dark raisins to 1/2 gallon for sugars--whack em--up in small food chopper, whole onion or < of your flavor, whacked, couple small cloves garlic, all whacked up, maybe 1 inch fresh ginger, maybe 1/2 sweet potato partially cooked for more sugars. Carrots add thickness but none of my sauces last year lacked thickness when I didn't use carrots--they sweeten. Also, would smoke a few BMorugas, later, a few to add to final cooked sauce, if you want smokey flavor, and if not, don't.

You can drain the whey off yogurt that states "live active cultures" and lists LBs or order some Caldwell's which I prefer, but I will use specific yogurt for whey, because I cook ferments. (PM me and be glad to walk through fermenting if you haven't done it. Not hard. "Demystified Fermenting Peppers 101 to Advanced." I drove ChiliMonsta crazy last year in PMs, when I was fouling airlocks, bla, bla. I owe what CM did for me: pass it on. )

For a fresh sauce, I'd do pretty much same, but per usual, add more lime juice than vinegar, and use a cane vinegar instead of white--I stay away from ACV except on that Bourbon Fatalii A-butter, to get pH safe. Will use splash white vinegar if pH is over 3.8, but bottled lime juice has a lower acidity than white vinegar, and tastes better, imo. I use a food-mill after first heating and blendering to get out seeds but that's your call. I like it easiest way possible!

On the OT, if that's what you mean, Ginger and OT go together "like peas and carrots." ;) And think it'd also be good with sweet potato. Spices of your choice in final cook. Have some specific recipes; if you want, PM me. And your "will-be-at" address! I truly envy that early harvest you have going on! Nice growing!

Now, to correct that Red MoA issue from Greg/PIC1: Greg is right. And few other oddity pics. AND PACKAGE!

Picked beans yesterday--only planted them for my mother. Bush Blue Lake 274. Not messin' with bean picking all summer. Besides, they have a tolerable taste. (I prefer green beans, raw.) The gods smiled on me with toe, in one respect, because the blasted neck pumpkin grew over beans and kept them fresh/shaded. In other respect, PIA getting to them. But did, took em to Mama.

And what's chance of condensate pump on AC and hot water heater going out at same time? Depends upon ex--that's difference! Gave him $ while at conference few summers ago to have HVAC guy replace condensate pump: didn't happen. HWHeater is just a thing.

Yesterday afternoon, bless my oldest "baby" bro's heart, after working in heat all day as a mechanic, told me to drain old water heater, took pic of condensate pump, I gave him plastic; he picked up both--but forgot my hand-truck; said "Squealer," our middle bro, had it--stuff doesn't change with siblings as we age--but we got that done, as he was careful with my foot, and am fixin' to install new condensate pump. Long story, I know.

BUT as we finished, sweaty, etc. we both got calls from Mama: she'd fixed beans with ham hock, mashed taters with evap milk, real butter, fried okra she got at produce place, fried summer squash I'd taken her, w/some cukes and maters, hot yellow cayenne--and the woman had made homemade peach ice cream. :D Our eyes lit up as we each got calls; bro nearly carried me to his truck. Good GAWD did we pig-out! Glad we got old HWH out and new in, as I couldn't move last night, afterward.

Thus, with toe hurting some last night, so so THRILLED to get "pain package" in mail today from Scott/Devv!

First some correction pics and questions with bean patch surprises.

Red MoA that looks a lot like JA Hab (and not) but GLAD to have this cleared up. I just have one more regular MoA plant than I thought. Both red MoAs look like this. And Greg, if this is not it, am just taking as is!

Neck pumpkin 1 in bean patch, measured at almost 3' and didn't bother with width:

Another monster:

Found the above (seeds for) helping Mama clean out Mawmaw's house. Planted most in straight vermicompost with organic amendments. Make great pies, and if cook down some, great additions to pepper sauces, but just dang.

And finally, ahhhhhhhhhhh. Gifting from Scott. THANK YOU, Scotty!! (and most I recognize--if that was Bishops Crown, I have something sweet/hot delicious to look forward to when mine ripen! If not, saved seeds!) Most I recognize but some clarification? Sunrise scorp? Along with Jigsaw? Orange Thai, Aji Limon, BMJ, Choc Scorp? Y7, Brown Moruga or Douglah? Serrano. (Or let me believe it's serrano, lol!)

Again, thank you, Scotty! My "foot's" getting ready to feel better already! :D Really, know you've been in pain too, so again, thank you and LB!

Your welcome Annie! Enjoy them.

A shameless copy paste from my glog..LOL:

Top left moving right. Bonda, seeds from your pods ;) Costeno Amarillo, Giant Yellow 7, seeds from your pods. The reds besides the jigsaw are a mix of Bhut x Yellow7, and Bhut x Yellow7 X bhut x douglah, seeds from Charles.

Bottom row, Aji's I just mix the lemon's and Pineapple's. I would say one of each. Funky Reaper's from the mother plant. Yes serrano's, I was trying to stuff the box and was running low. Not the best looking Choc scorp, the red is a cross mentioned above. JA Hab, a not so giant yellow 7 :) And a choc 7 pot. Seeds from John.
I also want to add I'm loving the pod and melon pics.

Remember to stay off the foot Kettle!

I'm lovin' your garden pics miz Annie! Looks like a few anomalous pods, but like they say in New York... whaddya want for nothing? ;)  I'm sure they taste fine and will do the job of easing the pain in your foot.

Scotty's definitely da man for sending you a package of his home-grown "pain remedy"

My Mom grew Neck Pumpkins last year, and yeah, they made great pies.

Be well, and  c-ya later ma'am. :)

Shameless when ya orta be proud of producing such pods in a desert?? NO!

I do have story on that Jigsaw. Night before last . . . it kinda went on until well, last night a tad, but nothing like the cramps night I ate it. Will review later when, 1. am not angry at foot for hurting (because have overworked it). 2. make my pre-super shake-mix after a 3. meal. Not on empty stomach. 4. chew, chew, chew; yeah: I hogged it down and Sepia Serpent stomach stupid, via Jamie, was nothing compared to this. Not pepper's fault: MINE. And had been munching on my peppers, well, just that "Lisa" from Stefan, which is absolutely EXCELLENT. MAN! More pods forming and wish had planted more of it than Elisir. But unless I go PTSD-cramps, just want to hold off on speaking of what I did with Jigsaw, trying to get out of pain!

Thank you for IDing Scotty and Aji Pineapple's on my list next year! Can't wait to try the rest, PROPERLY.

Thanks Rick! Scotty's generous gifting will help pain when I regain enough SENSE to not just eat one in frustration with foot. (See above. I was so, so, so stupid.)

Yeah, those neck pumpkin, in moschata fam, aren't prone to SVB. And I just can't go around shooting down every nasty moth I see (nasty moth drone? ;) ); so I grow those and butternut--having given up on everything else that succumbs to SVB. But as your Mom knows, they'd run couple miles if ya let them. I pinch off blossoms once get a good set as far is far enough.

Have some pics of Jason's giftings! Came yesterday in PO, when I managed to get there, after all-night ignert mess-up (on my part) with Jigsaw.

First, BOC unpackaged (Jason/GA G-Head) can PACK, now!

Took some over-all pics of pepper garden, that had been chain link fence area, and tree shaded, with rose bushes, last year; really happy for all the work, by looks of it now but . . . pods Jason sent:

From top left clockwise: Aji White Fantasy; BG7 "type," PDNs, a Brown Butlah SLP, and 2 PI441598 crosses, peach F3. I need to get some pics of it up with purple blotches side soon, or am gonna eat it (after saving seeds).

And again, just nibbling on Stefan's "Lisa," it has SUCH good taste. Thought it was going to turn again from peachy orange and might, but ate one orange. EXCELLENT pepper! (That I did not eat on empty stomach.)

Thanks for looking!

Nice to know the Pimenta Lisa has a good flavor... at least the one you have.  ;)  I set out two plants... one turned out to be a runt, but the other has decent size and a dark purple phenotype.

Those Jigsaws are mean right enough... I was able to get a whole one down by scraping out the membrane and seeds, and mincing it into the eggs in an egg and cheese sandwich with 2 eggs and 2 slices of White American cheese. It lit up my mouth for half an hour and felt like a banked fire in my stomach for half a day... it's certainly got my respect. :fireball:

Good on Jason for sending pods and plants! Looks like some nice ones too.  Fare well miz Annie!

Wow thanks for the write up! I need to get this started, hah! I was going to ferment some of Scott's reapers... haven't had a bunch of brown pods to taste yet, but they're coming.

I'll say this about the brown eggs... they sure are thirsty. They seem to be very susceptible to rubbery tips, I think because it's hard to keep them watered on raised beds above asphalt. Ah well. Seeing a similar problem with jalapeños and other thick-fleshed peppers.

Ferment tips are very helpful. So many pepper projects, no where near enough time.

Yes, Rick, those Pimenta Lisa are pretty astounding; and surprising? One's finally turning pod color on Stefan's website but I saw your pics and my Lisa plants all do same thing--bottom green leaves, purple veins; up top, purple leaves and flowers, but different colored pods. Hope the orange-podded keeps giving as want to send out some pods of it, since not tried the other yet. You were wise with the Jigsaw. Very. But I said to Universe, "Just let my foot stop hurting?!" And I surely didn't notice foot pain all night.

Triple that great, on Jason! I hope I can get some BOC before our season calls it frost, but as much as stuff's already turning in that new pepper garden since mid-May and given what I've put in planting holes, just might. I think the other two will be no problem but hey: not a race and the journey that counts. As it should: I have a Y7 of 3 and one's pods are turning red! (Seeds taken, last fall, from Y7 plant near red moruga plant.) Been practicing, "My name is Jamie Annie and I'm a nonaholic," since Jamie loves his nons! Have a great night, dear!

Thanks for that tip on BEggs, Adam! I really enjoyed just turning on that Dripworks system in main garden today and letting it go until soil felt good and soaked. Love most browns! Choc Scorp that Scott sent may be on my hit list tomorrow night. See what have to look forward to when mine turn.

Do you have a community garden or are your beds on your property? Because that set and forget is so worth it. I only have soakers in pepper garden and that's not too much of a hassle at moment, but would rather do it the easy way with drip--no changing lines, etc. OTH, can start sooner on asphalt as it has to warm soil in beds much faster. Always something. ;)

Ahh, but the beauty of fermenting is that it lets you set the time for processing sauce and you can taste it after it slows the ferment, at least, to see what you want to add to processing for taste. Ramon/Walkgood was kind enough to share a bunch of--Bill (R-Man) did too--but Ramon put some great Cuban crossed with Jamaican raw sauce ideas up last year on his glog (I miss that guy), and where he raw processed and used, I played off his stuff but fermented, since he could immediately critique his own recipe, because they applied it immediately. Big help. Really, PM me and will be glad to share some stuff/recipes, which don't have to be followed to any letter, no rules: make it yours! Or can email you a Word doc with recipes; I note on them what I'd change, have and will continue to, probably. And good GAWD, the sheer numbers of jams to make with supers, and as you mentioned, MoA? Yep. And onion jam is GREAT as is tomatillo-lime jam, and mangoes are . . . yeah: sky's limit! Mix/match/combine? I dunno why I've never made salsa verde lime jam since I've made lots of bonnet, Caribe Red, and jal-lime jam  . Why didn't I throw some sweet caramelized onion in it? Minced ginger? Have a great night!

I am a community grower for the time being. Currently we all live in a one bedroom apartment in downtown Atlanta, so it's an asphalt lot or nothing. The raised beds work great, and their compost was good for a time, but now I'm worried. I caught a rumor that they'd been adding zoo waste to the compost pile. That is mildly concerning. The initial compost was started from vegetable refuse from restaurants all over Atlanta, and it's generally been good stuff. But zoo-waste... who knows what's going on in gorilla poo?

We are shifting to a two-bedroom at the start of next month... with a South-facing balcony. Should be good for a couple more pepper plants, and I may move my tomatoes there as well... maybe hang 'em up.

I'll give those ferments a try soon. Probably going to stick with something basic, and ferment some red bhuts/indian crabones. May do some reapers for a purée as well.

Do thawed peppers ferment well? I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't.

Gorillmanure . . . sounds like one could sell it @ premium $$ (by name appeal.) But since evolution is evident to me--some just haven't (and we wait)--do they have composting toilets for the apes? 6 of 1/half dozen of other, probably. We could also worry about horse manure since most horses get routine vaccinations as foals and boosters, but I shy away from nearly free city compost. Because all the hospitals donate, which includes some cafeteria but also human stuff, which is totally stupid. Warren Zevon's "Gorilla, You're a Desperado" came to mind!

Bet you'll be thrilled to get into 2bdr! In same community? (In order to keep pepper grow in raised beds?) And those sound like great ferments and warm, purée! I've never tried to ferment frozen pods but Bill writes something critical, I think, here. Key: "let them warm up" to at least room temps. Warm room temps: lb like warm temps to ferment. Anything I ever have in frig, I bring to room temp before grinding/cutting/whacking to put in mash. Doesn't take long. But just me. Peace!
