MoA (but another half-6 of that from Walkgood/Ramon and Steve); 3. Tabasco (mine) 4. Bahamian Goat (Greg PIC1), and 5. JA Hab (Ramon/Walkgood)

Many thanks to Mike Rote/Barley_Pop for jerky   :drooling:  and Jason/GA Growhead, for sending me my own Orange Thai seed and the hottest damn powder I've ever had! :onfire: Also, thank you, John, Ark/Saw for the Harbor Freight coupons for "torch to burn honeysuckle roots." And everybody who has, via PM or otherwise, encouraged, offered ideas on new, additional growing space: fence is gone and if no rain, fell, limb, buck and split with two splitters 8 big trees, Maple, 4 Hickories, Pecan, Black Walnut, Poplar NEXT WEEKEND!

Also, would like ideas on that new (additional) space (100'+ x 50')  with stumps, most are to side except Maple. 1. burn 2. grind (cost prohibitive and don't think rented grinder would get it but might if ya'll have any ideas) 3. Work around them this year . . . raised beds, ugh, the work or level with huge dump truck topsoil. And again, work around what's left of stumps. Rip it in Feb. REALLY rich humus in half that on the "lots of trees" side: 25' x 100'+. Also, high side. Have considered dozer/bucket end of my and cousin's tractor just to help level and "share the wealth" of humus.

Hope everybody has kick-butt 2014 GROW! :fireball:

Wow, Annie!  Great to see the results of all your hard work and planning.
The garden spaces are awesome.  I make about 100 plants in the main
pepper patch?

Sorry to hear about the burn.  No fun, but good on ya for being able to
wear a 'nuthin' bikini!'  I put my speedo away years decades ago

I guess my most stupid garden moment was spraying 16 mature plants
with 2-4-D last summer and not realizing my mistake until the next day   :mope:

Lol. I'm not a sun screen person either, but I just get darker and less sun burnt the next time around. Hope you start feeling like you can sit/lay down soon!
And garden is looking awesome! Was planning on planting in tomorrow. Might still get a few done if the rain gives me a break tomorrow or Sunday.

Hey darlin' Paul: you sprayed 2-4-D . . . You, dear man, are close to my heart: you'll tell on yourself! But dang! Am sorry you did that but glad you'll tell it! I have Bayer Neem and Bayer Brush Killer (for Privet, Poison Ivy, etc.) and since they are in identical looking containers, took one to carport--the brush--with gallon sprayer. Left the neem in basement with another gallon sprayer; wrapped black gaffing tape around the herbicide and sprayer; and duct tape around the good stuff and sprayer with "+" signs in green marker. It's the least I good do for my brain. But there's a 50/50 chance . . .

Might be 100 plants, might be more; felt like more. I know there are in total, up in big garden too, 164 not counting bells, sweet banana, paprika, etc. with just one LONG row of them.

And get those Speedos back out! Think, "Europe." I mean, if you were going to la playa near Malaga, Spain, had not packed trunks, and were 90 yrs. old, you'd have to buy Speedos. Or look americano in shorts. And they don't like us there; then, there's some tragic incident wherein you cannot pass yaself off as canadiense. See? Ounce of prevention . . .

Gardens look great Annie. 100 plants or so? You should be buried in pods soon.

  Love your gardening stories. I get a good laugh out of them.

Well, as told Paul, uh, closer to 164 minus bells, bananas, paprika, etc. But the dang tomatoes were the worst. I hate digging a foot deep hole and amending it. Weather channel maybe calling for some hail and what the "hail" can ya do 'bout it if it does? But then, I think they like to sensationalize weather. (OTH, Bessemer City, AL and Tupelo, MISS ain't laughing. Sad.)

Short of hail (and damaging winds in excess of 350 mph--really? geez), uh I hope pods come out of this. (Now that I've made fun of WChannel, watch something catastrophic happen.) NOOO! Thanks for enjoying my fun, Jeff! Heck, if ya can't make hard work fun . . . why do it? (Also, if you wouldn't mind, PM me your addy, please. Don't think I have it in my THP member mailing doc.)

Good Great job getting all your babies in the ground this week! Continued success sister!

No Rick, sweetie: nobody tops Pat! I found him in Field and Stream back-issues ages ago and he's soda-spewing-out-nose, pee pants funny. But if I did write a novel I would assume the narrator name of "Natilder Bumpper"--a nod at JFCooper, because while I mostly dislike his writing, many of Leatherstocking series are HILARIOUS with sociopolitical leans that many miss. (Yeah, teaching Colonial and Later Lit in one class this semester is much with me. Wish it'd leave.) Besides, Mark Twain liked Cooper's intent.

Am really looking forward to the Gochus. You got me hooked: thank you!

Glad to see all those babies in the dirt, and that's a whole lot of work you did there.

I would garden in a thong for a $100 bet too!

Except my neighbors would need a telephoto lens ;)

Thanks, Kettle.

Careful about them bets thar, Scotty; I got friends in Austin who owe me and go up to Mt. Bonnell to stargaze with some serious scopes and cameras. :D

BTW, your Funky Reapers are competing with some trees that they see in distance. (I should have seeded the WHung, since that's the case.)

Man, I know you think it's clay, but I thought of you in that sand, watching the peppers almost wilt, going, "How does he do it? Oh: irrigation." Cousin was impressed with that soil as he tilled it. He's, "Shit girl. Little more clay and you'd about have loam. Ha, ha, ha." But literally, soil was so hot, planting in it barefoot--yeah, go barefoot when I can in garden--it was burning soles of feet and I run barefoot once warm enough. Hotter than pavement and track this week, hot. I/we/I bought house from parents. Mama waited until this week to tell me that she'd had--she retired from private Early Childcare--a sandbox that was HUGE, there for YEARS. I asked what happened to it and she said, over the years she got tired of replacing the frames so she just let the kids scatter it. I mean, I was never around, living all over place and had no clue; when came home, didn't pay attention, left. My worry now is spider mites. Already warned rosemary bush.

Plants all in the dirt have to be a good feeling.  Tuesday after next is my target date.  Looking nice and I do hope your burgundy comes through for you well.

Hiya Burgbilly Jeff! Those danged Burgs are 2' tall nearly! Seeds on steroids, along with Scott's Funky.

Yeah, only gotta make summer/winter "squarsh" mounds and amend, seed. Plant beans. But Mama came by yesterday afternoon. Left Daddy in truck as he just eats and could care less about getting dirty, planting, etc. Which is why my mother walks with a walker; if we ate it, she planted it. And we ATE out of a garden, growing up. That woman canned for eons, planted, picked, cooked, fried, preserved. So, there stood my 80 yr. old mother, walked all the way down there; I joined her. She says, hobbling off to a spot, "Ya know, I like this layout honey." (She never calls me honey unless she wants something.) "I see where you could put in a row of okra if I bought the seeds." Then, she looked at me like a lost puppy. Oh hell!

So, it ain't all exactly in yet. Tuesday after next, will be thinking of you! Nice gentle rain falling now and yeah: that does feel good, esp. for new garden space as that dirt/sand is drier than est. garden. Can't wait to see your plant out!

Yeah, that's my philosophy, Jason. Maybe not the cheeks' "idear" at the moment but getting better. Besides, whatever they put in that sun screen attracts skeeters since all my friends wear it. But skeeters were active on Thursday around 4 pm. Loading up another round of fish/kelp/molasses in 5 gal buckets to water in, and got swarmed. 90F and mosquitoes desperate for water in full sun? So, went got a 2 gallon bucket and filled it for them after they swore oaths not to be carrying West Nile.

I figured you'd have everything planted in, hon. But then as of last Sat. email from registrar told me a-okay and bye-bye (but to remember commencement next weekend if I wanted my check, DD'ed. Damn them. But it's nice to see kids who've sorta grown-up a little, celebrate an accomplishment, which they did if they had me.) So, I had week off to do this.

Hey, I rec chunky perlite for clay. After the rain last night, has melted some clods in big garden, is draining well, so far. Thank you so much for all the pods you sent from which I collected seed!

"But there's a 50/50 chance . . . "Haha, just like our Portland Trailblazers.  If they are up by 20 points, it's anybody's game

I think you have me beat, in fact I know it!

But....I know where your head is at. All this physical labor-work-fun is a fantastic release for the daily bullshit we have to endure to fit into society. Sometimes I can just scream, won't do any good. So gimmie a shovel, a pitchfork, or a hoe (OK gotta be careful with using hoe in a sentence) . But it's all good! I'll be out there at sunup turning the compost pile, spreading mulch and be getting my brain ready for Monday...sigh. The school year ends very soon, I'm sooo ready :onfire:

Well, unless you're going to San Fran, Pauly. Just "wear flowers." (There's an old hippy in there somewhere, "man.") Ever hear Lynda Stipe's (Mikey's sis) version of McKenzie's one hit wonder? It's hilarious.

I am growing a burgundy okra this year too.  If it does well and mails well, I could send you some down for your mom to give a go.

I like that burg okra, Burgbilly Jeff! Grew it few years back and it pickled and fried up as good as any other, gets to a respectable 5 or so feet and prolific! Minute I like something, can't find local seed. Tried of messin' with CSpineless as got to "look it" 2X per day.

Given our little cold snap coming up after temps in 90s, may order some burg and other okra seed, and might have to go with more winter squash seed as well if it stays as cold as they're saying will get this weekend and if the downpours of rain (after a serious drought/heat wave) doesn't wash seed away. Yesterday bought copper and Spectracide Immunox for tomatoes. I know people say, "don't use broad spectrum" but with this zany weather, intend to kill all fungus gonna kill maters and cukes, soon as it dries up. Just as well not planted okra yet. I talked to a friend mad as hell yesterday. He has over 10 acres. Already planted corn, okra, tomatoes from seed, everything. He's gonna give it a minute but figures he'll have to replant. He was buying Spectracide fungicide too--we're all kinda getting desperate for homegrown tomatoes!

Sup, Kettle. Garden has been working me hard but as ya say, that's just fine I took a "hoe" to the squash/bean hills . . . mo "moundin'" with the "hoe;" if the rain doesn't get any worse--I have a nearly swimming eggplant--but after 95F and drought for 2 weeks, keeping everything on life-support with water, have fungicides at ready--w/ lows at night around 42-45 after lows at night in 70's? It won't frost don't think and maybe won't get that low at night but are nasty fungal dream conditions coming up. So, whether it's good for me or not, am hitting everything except peppers with Spectracide Immunox. Peppers just gonna get a little copper--might keep some cold off them too--dunno. I called Ag Ext. and they said to use Spect. Immunox and . . . not to mulch yet. Good deal! NOT done that yet. Mulch would hold in cold soil temps so . . .

I love the non-dramatic, subtle, lol, very subtle springs and falls of Tejas! Here? Oh no; it has to be "exciting."

Had a kid . . . couple frantic calls from some of my rising Sophs, Monday. They know no mortality until it greets them. (Not sure we did either, even after we lost a classmate/friend.) So, headed out of garden down to lake to be with my kids, all faculty headed down too, counselors, chaplains everybody just showed up. Kid drowned. Bummer of working in a school/college setting, just so many more of them to die and it happens every year. Not immune; just anticipate it. Feel so so bad for his family. Damn, just damn.

You know it, SweetJamie. ;) Better post this quick as the idjit town workers are (sadly) working with dook power to fix something, causing everybody's power to crash, come back on, crash. Hell, Dominican Republic redux. "It was them thar rains . . ."??

Sorry to read about the student, we've lost a couple very young alumni in the last 12 months. Car wrecks, both of them, 2013 grads.

Yeah Tejas is not nice about season changes ;)

Yeah, That's tough news to here about the student. We lost one last year. All the possible lost forever.

Thanks for reminding me on the compost tea. I like to sprinkle it on wet ground so it already has a path.

Busy, busy bee you are Ms. Annie!  Sorry to hear about the bf.  I'm sure your way better off.  I'm sure he got jealous because he was the one cheating.  Funny how that works!  And I agree,  my brother has freakishly soft hands, lol,  and I tell him his hands are softer than a baby's butt.  I always say,  "I see you've been moisturizing!". He's an IT guy out in LA so he doesn't do manual labor like I do.  The suntan is just brutal!  I read you got it as well.  My back was peeling for a week and everywhere I walked it was all over the floor.  The sun is a little bit different down here in TN compared to WI.  Never had such a severe burn.  I don't wear the sunscreen either.  I like to get tan because I'm out in the sun all day so I just get it over with ASAP.  The Doc tells me I need to start cause I have sun spots all over my back which he says turns into melanoma down the line.  We all gotta die someway!  Might as well enjoy it while we're here.

The garden looks amazing and the work you did is tough and time consuming to say the least.  You will be awarded for sure!  This is my second year having to start a new plot.  Next year will be easy.  Love your list of tomatoes and peppers.  Lots of tastiness there no doubt.  Cannot wait to see things in full bloom.  Gonna be a jungle out there I tell ya!  Enjoy the rest of the week Ms. Annie!

P.S.  Good job on winning that bet!  You know what they say,  a picture is worth a thousand words ;)

Thanks, Scott. I'm sorry for your losses. Bach Graduation had better not become a glum fest this afternoon. Hooding ceremonies for grad students was grim last night, pouring rain, etc. (I requested Gregorian chanting at both of mine but was denied. :mope:) I was asked to help hood one student (by the student) and to lighten the mood, I told him I might eff with him; I did, not that my fellow-hooder appreciated it. This student was black and I said, slowly, deeply, as, doing the "monk-over," "Master, welcome to the Order of the Knights of the Ku . . ." that's all I could get out before we both cracked the hell up.  :D Nobody found it that funny a bit, except the Chancellor who laughed aloud. So; reckon I still got a job.

I LIKE Tejas seasonal changes. Ya gotta pay attention! It's subtle.

Gotta get out once sun kinda hits all plants good in muck boots and hit them with fungicide and them some nice Neem, BT, etc. before that gown goes back on my molting backside again. 'Bout down to bone from loufa scrubbing.

Thanks TripJ. I'm sorry about your community's loss.

Yeah, but babe; will night temps in 40's sustain AACT? Or do a quicky run of 12 hours tomorrow? "And I had opened the fourth seal there was heat and drought and a withering plant was watered by a red rider; and then when I had opened the fifth seal, there was rain and cold and the water-soaked plants were sprayed by a heavy clad, molting mucker . . ."

Eh, I get that melanoma rant and been getting it . . . but as you say. Only line I particularly ever liked by Sir Paul, aside from the entire song, "Let Me Roll It," is "you never felt the rain my friend, 'til you felt it rolling down your back." I can't go into a Michael Jackson bubble and for the good that did him. My baby bro is an IT guy too but he's active enough; between his incessant building--he built an "outbuilding" on his new property with a dang shower and toilet, sleeping area--he was thinking about nights he'd spent in motels from po-ing his wife (he has a GREAT one; the dingbat has slight learning curve being the "baby")--ought to rent that out until he needs it. I hear his oldest son in from college has chosen to spend summer in it! So, busy, hard work is genetic and nurture. But I still tell him he has soft hands just to mess with him.

You'll get used to the sun. Painting houses in sports bras, ultra-light shorts in Austin heat/sun, 40' ladders in summer? I got "cured" fast! After molting, my back has retained a lot of brown or it's bone marrow am seeing from me scrubbing it  .

I might get rewarded if I can get some wheat straw down on that new plot soon as cold front passes this weekend. Or trying to decide on tree mulch, since it could stand more hardwood, and pine, while est. garden needs pine. Leaves and "horsey stuff"  will help in fall. And yeah on ex, of course: pure projection = pure ejection.

Out to spray stuff: "My feet are heavy and I'm rooted in my wellios."--Kate Bush, forget which song, but from first album, The Kick Inside. Brilliant stuff.

Thanks guys! Peace!

Maybe some pics after I cut myself loose from pic taking with 'rents and kids this afternoon.

Annie, I'm sorry for your loss. I have a friend who is finishing up school there and he was telling me about the accident. He shared a class with the deceased and seemed to be pretty taken back by everything. As he should be. You never know when your time is finished so you better make the most of it while you can. I hope everything goes well with the commencement this evening.
