Any issues vegging with HPS or fruiting with MH?

In my reading through many of the posts, it seems there is not really a consensus on the merits of the spectrum sensitivity of pepper plants. Some claim to have issues with veg phase and HPS or fruiting with MH. I just was at my local B&M and they had a used 400 W HPS so I picked that up. However, I just got started growing peppers and the only other light I have is a 125 CFL I am using on seedlings and hope to run the HPS on the plants from seed to fruit. The kit I got is not a digital ballast system so swapping bulbs is out unless I get one of the MH bulbs that has an adapter for HPS systems.

While I have seen several successful grows on here, I too have used LED personally with great results. Tad expensive on start up for a solid set up though. Unless you DIY.

I wouldnt touch any premade panels, DIY is the only way to get  efficency

Hps is good all the way through
^Agreed. I have used both and opt for hps over mh. My plants have done better over all with hps but, If I were to redo my system, I would go with 1-600w hps system and 1-600w mh system and get the best both have to offer.

You can use CMH (Ceramic metal halide) bulbs with a 400w HPS ballast: http://www.htgsupply.com/products/ge-400-watt-ceramic-metal-halide-lamp

CMH is pretty damn cool, much closer to the spectrum of sunlight compared to either MH or HPS. Slightly lower lumen output but supposedly higher PAR for a comparable bulb. PAR is the important # when it comes to plants anyway.

The local hydro shop here has a CMH setup running in store and it's pretty awesome, literally looks like plants under sunlight with almost no color shift. The plants seem to love it too.

This link has some graphs showing the spectrum of CMH vs HPS toward the bottom. http://growershouse.com/images/ALTEST_infographic_1.pdf
