Different strains that I'm about to stablize are:

• Neon Lamp (C.chinense x C.frutescens)
• Red Bud (C.chinense x C.frutescens)
• Pervert's Tongue (C.annuum x C.frutescens)

Nice, Red Bud sounds like a great one for the smoker.

What does it take to get a variety registered and is it worth the time? How well does it protect your creation? Can people sell the seeds under a different name or something like that and get away with it?

There si a specific group you go through (don't have the info handy) and they publish the name of your new cultivar and wala! Registered. Unfortunitly I'm not finding one for peppers. It just helps protect it to prove that you craeted the strain. Other people can sell it.
