Any thoughts on scales to purchase?

Hello all,

I need to get more into the cooking of peppers and I was thinking that it would be a good thing to own a scale.  I am an inexperienced cook so I don't believe I need to spend hundreds of dollars on a Deli scale.    I haven't done much research so I am not sure what features to look for.

I found this Yamato DKS-3002 four pound digital scale for less than $50 that sounds good.  Does both pounds or grams.  Accuracy down to 0.1 ounces.  Sounds fine.  But, would I ever need more than four pounds?  I guess that is a question that would be answered as "depends"...  At that point, I guess I should just pay out for a bigger scale.

Any thoughts or recommendations is greatly appreciated.

As you stated, you aren't really in need of anything fancy, so I believe you would be just fine with something like that. Walmart generally carries basic food scales at a reasonable price. If you need something super accurate, most smoke shops and office supply stores will carry much more sensitive scales.

FWIW, I've got one of those Chinese digital scales, the CJ-300

It's proven to be reliable and dead-accurate.  Testing with a set of calibration weights, the scale is accurate and repeatable to the limit of resolution, 0.1 gram.

You'd want one with a greater capacity, possibly in exchange for one digit less resolution.  (What recipe calls for 32.1grams of salt?)  Many scales of this sort come with a cover that doubles as a weighing container.
For kitchen use, the durability issue might decide between and old-school beam and a digital.

Triple Beam:
Bombproof.
Plenty accurate.
Bulky and a little heavy.

Electronic:
The load sensors can be damaged if you grossly overload or drop something onto the platform.
Stupidly accurate.
Nice and compact.
Probably a little cheaper - $25 on Fleabay.
