anybody growing hatch chili's?

I have regular Anaheims from Burpee and NuMex Big Jims. I haven't tried the latter yet; this will be the first year. PM me if you want to try either. Either way, get ready to make your neighbors jealous when you roast them on the grill this Fall!  :fireball:   :fireball:

I've got a packet of Sandia Seeds' NuMex Heritage 6-4, which is one of several varieties that are considered to be 'Hatch Chilis.'

PM an address and I'll send you a few.

Do you plan on growing all of them this year? I would be really interested to see your take on them. Vigor, hardiness, productivity, flavor, heat etc...

P.S. Big Jims and a "freebie" are in the mail!

I love hatch chiles. Every summer we get giant shipments to the grocery stores here (hatch is in new Mexico, AZ is right next to it for people that suck at geography like me). They end up selling them for 50 cents a pound. Somehow, I have had hatch chiles that rivaled store bought orange habs in heat. According to a few new mex buddies, however, you have to actually go to Hatch NM to get the "real deal" peppers. I'm growing some but the plants suck. Going to try some more plants soon and hopefully will get the "real deal" fresh peppers

You don't have to go to Hatch to get "Hatch" peppers, as so many of those sold in Hatch are actually from Southern Arizona (Baja Arizona).  Hatch chilies are nothing but a marketing gimmick.  Here are a couple of sources:  http://sidedish.dmagazine.com/2012/08/07/hatch-chilies-like-unicorns-dont-exist/     http://alibi.com/food/43183/A-Myth-Hatched.html

I didn't mean thats the only place you could get them, I was just saying a few of my buddies insist that they are crap everywhere else. Then again, its probably similar to every southern state thinking it has the only authentic BBQ. Interesting links tho thanks
