soil Anyone got a soil ph meter recommendation?

Posted on a thread in the hot sauce making forum, as I'm looking for a ph meter that I can use for that side of the hobby. However, I also need one for my soil testing. I'm concerned that the super cheap $5 ones that I commonly see at the hardware store are likely to be unreliable, so I'm looking for a decent one for testing soil as well.

I've never seen a reliable soil test meter, I prefer to use the kit where you add the drops and check the color. Much more accurate/reliable in my opinion

Ph meters don't work well with soil because the solids get on the sensing element and it stops working.

Ph strips (litmus paper) are the best way and the results are way more repeatable.

Nova,

If you are mixing potting mix, compost, etc., in your pots it will be a challenge getting a reliable reading unless you basically mix a sample (vertically taken) with water and measure that (shake it real good first).
