pests APHID!

AlabamaJack

eXtreme
This is the first I have seen of aphids in my grow areas...luckily I was just taking photos today and guess what I found sitting on the petal of a Grif 1404 Habanero Red Annuum...pretty as you please...it is now war time.

where's my neem....

Looks like you have a few of the bastards. The aphids love flowers and new growth as well as the undersides of leaves so make sure to spray everywhere.

just used 1/2 gallon neem treatment...will repeat in about 4 days or so...almost soaked upper and lower surfaces of leaves, got the stems and all flowers too...

time to wait and see....

At least you know what you're enemies are...And that means you know what their weakness is...Blow them all up!!! I think that I could hear your scream for CHARGE! all the way here...I wish ya good luck with your extermination.

forget waiting, hit 'em again tomorrow...

Get some ladybugs and release the hounds in your garage. The plants will be outside soon and will help. We all have confidence you'll have this in control in almost no time.

can i just mention the tremendous amount of respect i have for someone with approximately nine zillion plants still paying such close attention as to find one single aphid....

thanks GB but I think I have more now that I am inspecting closer...new growth on the plants is suspect...and in the picture of the single aphid...if you will notice there are three more down in the "cusp" of the flower and i believe on the upper right flower bud there is one that is blurry...

Lady bugs seem to be appropriate here....but does neem oil and pyrethrins kill lady bugs?

I hate to say this, but until I came here I did not realize that pepper plants had enemies/bugs... I just thought everything left them alone.

Flame away if you feel the need ;)

Yes, it would. Since you're so close to moving them outside, I would stick with Neem for right now. Once they're outside, nature will probably send a few ladybugs and other aphid eaters your way.

God, it's gonna be two weeks before plant out...I was shooting for March 17th....I want them outside as quickly as possible but don't want to risk losing all plants to a killer frost....I definitely will watch the extended forecast for the next 10 days....

Hang in there AJ the season is right around the corner. I'm right there north of ya and wanting to plant soooooo bad but I can't trust the weather man yet I am waiting for the soil to get 55 or more. At least thats what I'm shooting for. Oh for the lil critters KILL THEM they didn't have an invitation so boot their hinnies out the door. Good looking plants as always

thanks all for the encouragement....I can tell you exactly how they got in....with probably 95% certainty....you know last week when I bought the chrysanthymums to put with the pepper seedlings to keep aphids away...the chrysanthemums had aphids when I bought them...I only left them with the peppers for about 24 hours before the good people here told me that wasn't a smart thing to do....the chrysanthemums are now outside and will be burned later today.....

Damage Assessment

Glad I found those little bastards...er, uh, I mean aphids...I looked closely this morning at the damage and took some photos...only way I can see that close up...looks like I got "most" of them...am retreating with neem this morning...the first set of pics shows some damage on the underside of the leaves and second shows the most damaged leaf and the poor flower...they decimated this flower and it seems one is still there....

Wanted....Dead or Alive....on a pale horse I ride...
