I know there are other threads on this vendor. They seem to be locked. I was wondering if anyone has had this vendor stiff you on your purchase,then delete your order history after being confronted. That's what happened to me. I ordered a 3 pack of Reaper plants as back ups. A week went by after confirmation of purchase. Nothing. I contacted said vendor about the issue. He replied calling me a liar,saying there was no proof of my order. I have records of the transaction on my card. Asked for a refund,his terms of service state no refunds allowed. I assume that's to save his own skin. Is there anything I can do to get either my money back? I no longer wish to do business with him.

Oh I agree! It's why I've been so averse to doing pre-orders (I've only taken a grand total of 2 such orders, and both people were made fully aware that their items weren't yet ready). I usually only put my stuff up when I actually have stuff to sell. And you're right, all it takes is one bad storm to wipe out a lot of one's crop.
Many places I do business with may want a credit card to start things rolling. But they don't charge you "until" they send it. If they can only fill part of the order. They do and charge you. If something is out of stock they don't you until they ship .
Meinchoh, see there is the thing. I would think the opposite. I would think that with the volume of folk talking poorly here at THP that a member would get the best service to better the business reputation.
Pdreadie - Lots of my seed catalogs, including the big guys, do preorders and charge you when you order. It is really not all that uncommon, especially with plants. They presell so they know how many of each kind to grow.

meinchoh, maybe but I can not really judge cause I dont have a lick of business sense. Tractor broken, pto tiller broken, walk behind tiller broke the other day. Partial amputation on left foot in soft cast. Surgery on right foot saturday and it will be in a hard cast. It was pouring down rain today. Date of last frost hasnt hit yet. I was out in the rain with a shovel flipping dirt listening to Man O War and screaming lyrics.

Salsalady, saw my mentor of sorts the other day. He has been working the family farm since he was four. He is 85 I think. Hard to tell because he changes that often. His wife died last year. Havent seen him since. Asked him how he'd been. He explained that he was sleeping in every day for a couple months after his wife died. Didnt get up till well past 8 AM. Normally, he is up at 5 AM with no alarm clock. Always has, always will.
The man is amazing. He is also a complete and total nut case. Has absolutely no reason to work but wont miss a day.

Rex makes a good point. If you're going to sell anything on THP, you'd better be damn sure people get at least what they pay for, or you won't be doing it for long. It's a small community and word gets around. This is a good thing; as a consumer, you're much less likely to run into a problem, and a vendor who takes pride in what they're producing is pretty much guaranteed that new members will take a gamble on them once they do a little reading.mikeg said:
I'm thinking about getting into shipping live plants myself. I'm not really a fan of shipping them bare-roots. At the nursery where I work, we ship stuff in pots all the time. The shipping costs more and you have to really know how to package them correctly, but the plants come through it less stressed and you can send larger plants.

You know those peat pellet things? Either those or something the same size are the exact right width for the small flat rate box. when ready to ship, bag the peat pellet in plastic sandwich bag to keep moisture in. You get stiff craft paper, like the brown stuff that people wrap boxes with. You cut it the exact length of the small flat rate box. Then you roll it around your plant. Masking tape around the peat pot or what ever the pot is, tight enough so it wont slide inside the tube you made out the craft paper. Put three into the box, maybe four if you stack opposite ways.
I did not grow in those peat pellets these years. I dont much like them. So just shook most of the dirt and put the root ball into a plastic sandwich bag then did the other step and mailed off three plants. They should be there today or tomarow and we will see the general results. Thinking if the root ball were potted in one of those peat pellet things, that the results would be better.
Thoughts?
BTW: Thinking of selling off plants because not sure if I can get as many as I have in the ground after they cast up my legs. So gonna probably experiment more. If you have ideas you want me to test, I am going to be selling cheap explaining that I do not know what I am doing.

That sounds like a good method, AJ. I may have to try that out as well one of these years
Sadistic, I sent someone a few plants this way minus the pots. Just shook off the dirt and put into bags. They should be there today so we will see. But I think the peat pellet thing would make it better because the roots would hold the mass together once it got to the edge where that netting stuff is.

AJ I'd like to give a try but I'm in Hawaii now. If you are game I'd be willing to pay for some plants to try grow here while I'm here and then if someone from this area wants the plants they can have them. I'm in Kona til some time in August.
I did order some peppers from Bakers before I left for my job here so the planting and raising of my babies is up to the wife ( lord have mercy on those poor seedlings).
I never had any problem with them.
