Barley-pop57 2013 grow log

Hello Everyone, Somehow I managed to delete my 1st set of pics but have more on my update further down on this grow log. Thanks for bearing with me as I learn.

I just purchased a camera and I'm still learning how to use it and how to upload. So pardon me if I have trouble uploading pics.

I'm trying to grow 14 types of peppers this year and they are as follows:

Chocolate Douglah, Red Brain, Yellow Brain, Thai Sunrise, TS Moruga, Datil, SB7J,

Wht Habanero, Pimenta De Neyda, Hot Lemon, Naga Viper, Goat, Butch T, Bonda ma Jacque


I have had 7 pop sprouts. Actually had 8 but I manage to kill off the Datil (new seeds started) and possibly a Hot Lemon & Wht Hab. Per Patrick's advice I have doubled and or tripled seeds as back up.

When I transplanted plant plugs over to a little bigger container, I accidently grab wrong bottle for plant food and got the pure concentrate one. By the time I realized what I had done, I had already put it on the Datil, Wht Hab & Hot Lemon.

I was not able to save the Datil, but Patrick adviced me to "flush" the other 2. I tried it and waiting on results but if my pic's are good enough, one might be able to see where the last 2 are under the weather. Also the Butch T just popped today.

Last year I killed off all my plants that I got started----so hoping not to do the same this year!!!

Anyway I want to thank everyone that has helped me out with advice, plants, seeds and the pods I've boughten. The list is to large along with me having a short memory but I will do my best to acknowlegde all who were of help and if I forget some of you it is unintentional---so here goes: Patrick, cmpman1974, superhot, aji joe, bisgolf, waywright, corene 1, smitty, josh 2000, bama boy, just-a-guy, cycada jungle, pepper joe, armac and many more I can't remember at this time.

I will try to do better with pics as I learn my camera, how to upload things and hopefully not kill off plants...lol

Anyway that's it for me now. Hope everyone has a great grow season...Mike

Thanks Jamie, Rodney & Greg, I'm doing tons better than last year but it is going to be a small problem soon. I'm hoping to be able to keep them in the 20 oz. cups for awhile but I don't want them to get their roots circled.

Greg, I'm thinking when next transplant time comes it will have to be 1-3 gallon containers and then my final transplant will be in 10-15 gallon self pruning fabric bags.

My problem will be where to put them to get their light when they're in the in between stages, as I only have a small apartment and 24 larger containers...well just don't know where to keep 'em. I might have to take another shelf out in my mini greenhouse and hopefully be able to get 12 to a shelf and pray that it works until I get them outside.

Besides where I live, I have 3 places I can grow them when they are ready for the outdoors. That might get complicated too but will wait until that time.

Any thoughts or ideas are welcomed as I'm only in my second year at this....really enjoying it but I may have overplanted. Guess one cannot have enough peppers...LOL
 
Your plants are looking fantastic Mike! If you end up with too many that's a great excuse to meet some of your neighbors and offer to share. You may end up with an entire gaggle of folks growing peppers. How cool would that be?
 
I had to call my buddy Patrick yesterday.....seems after I transplanted plants on Monday by Tuesday they had white fuzzy mold on the soil.

I went into panic mode and made a call to him. He told me not to worry and scrape the mold off of soil and get air circulating around them. They appear great now and maybe after soil dries up some more, I will do a light spritz of H2O2 & water just to play it safe.

What a God send Patrick is and sharing a tip for those that didn't know that. So now I'm back in happy pepperland :surprised: .

Here's my update as of 3/5/13. I transplanted plants to the red solo cup method. It took me 4 hrs. as I mixed Ocean Forest poting soil with some Shultz's version of MG with plant feed for 9 months. To that I mixed in more perilite and Alaska plant food that was a 5-7-7 with 9% calicium to the whole combined mixed.

I tried to take pics then but batteries were low. So I took pics today but didn't want the hassle of undoing packing of plants. Ypu can't tell from pics but by leaving the goat pepper with just a green stem actually is growing leaves---made me proud of my patience..lol. So here we go and see if I get pic's loaded on here.

Thanks Brian. I had to do some remodeling on my mini-greenhouse and remove some shelving as plants were getting bushier and a little taller.

I cheated and used a tubing cutter to remove the one piece that needed to be gone (figure I use plumbing or electrical connector to reconnect).

Also took some pictures but I didn't notice any great changes but might add later. Also thinking of getting a couple more grow lights, as I'll probably need them if I need to transplant peppers to 1 gallon containers before final transplant outdoors.

Color---plant wise, the Pimenta de Neyda, is my favorite. Also have a Thai Sunrise plant that kind of reminds me of a hemp plant..lol. I need to get a clearer pic for that one. Photobucket is playing havoc with me---don't have the patience now for upload failed....

On another note, I was curious what red rocatos were like heat and taste wise. Running thoughts thru my head for next season peppers.
 
Have a few more pepper updates. I have a couple plants that have funky spots on leaves--you can also see thru leaves where spots are at. I have no idea what is going on. Have been pinching off leaves so that it might not spread. Any help on what to do would be appreciated.

Next update I will have transplanted to new containers---if the spot thing doesn't destroy them.
 
Plants are looking good Mike. I have has many plants with spots like that . Not sure what it is but I know it won't kill them. Just remove the bad leaves and pot those babies up!!! :party:
 
Thanks Jamie for the info. I've been doing exactly what you suggested.

I took out 12 plants from my mini greenhouse and put them on the 2nd floor of my apartment bldg. by a window facing the south. But they will be without grow lights. Then I re-arranged the remaining 13 plants in greenhouse. I figured I'd try creating some more airspace for all of them.

Patrick told me I can leave plants in red cups for a long while---so hoping to hold out until the 1st week of April to put all in 1 gal. containers and then from there wait until May 1-15th to put outside in their final containers.

I have a couple plants that look like they maybe trying to flower---the Thai Sunrise for sure. I can see white little buds---so I potted it up in a 1 gal. pot. I guess I have to wait and see and adapt---not much more I can do. :confused:

My OWs had some spots like that. They came after I sprayed them for aphids. After a week or so looking sicker and sicker and losing leaves in mass I gave them a severe hair cut and trimming. They had lots of flowers on them too. I am not sure who caused what (the bugs, the spray, or me) but the plants are bouncing back with nice healthy leaves on them.

Your plants look like they are doing quite well.

Been awhile, so time for update.  Have 25 plants going----9 have found homes and the other 16 I was going to grow out.  Transplanted outside 5/13/13.  Everything going good and was going to post pics when they got over shock and overall looking good (so I could have a little bragging rights...lol).
 
Then disaster hit on 5/15---My building maintenance guy calls and tells me the landlord is going to have some landscaping work done and my peppers had to go.  I lived here 10 years and the guy is just now getting around to fixing some minor issues.
 
So in scramble mode I got 14 plants over to a friends garden (who is already telling people when my peppers are ripe to get ahold of him).  Do not know how my saga is going to turn out.  I told him I want 1/2 the peppers.  I've already fixed him up with containers, fencing, stakes, nutrients and I can't think of anything I forgot---even told him I'd kick in a little for water bill.
 
Decide just to keep 2 here just to see what happens--a choco doughlah and a goat pepper.  I will wait and take pics later as things progress or digress.
 
Really kind of bummed by putting my time, efforts and what money I could afford only to be shot down....maybe not (glass half full) but I would have had a lot more peppers than I'll see now.  :violin:

Mike plants look good, sad to read about landlord making you move them, hopefully the ones at your friends will do great and you'll have half the crop. Was very nice of you to spring for water and stuff, any way you can keep mas in pots or after the landlord finishes the job move some nice 15 gallon pots in strategic locations. Hope you have a bumper crop mon!
