Beer labels

I usually crate the label within PowerPoint and then print them using Avery Design&Print. Only thing with printing them is you need to make sure your print head is aligned really well or you can get white space on the edge of the label. It's only a little bit which can be taken care of with a sincle edge razor blade but it's an additional step to have to take.

Even if I could take the perf hit for running with the virtualized graphics, I can't get the kind of access to the LPT1 and USB that I need in the VM to run the dongle software ...
 
It's a true computing nightmare, having to buy old computers off eBay and shit to have motherboards old enough to have the right chipsets for the old CNC machines ...
 
I'm like a specialist in the old ways of computing at this point.
 
For instance ... I still install DOS off diskettes for one of the CNC's ... do you know how hard it is to even find diskettes now, let alone have them work ...

Yuk. That brings bad bad memories of having to make boot disks for certain games.
 
For my labels I outsource the design work using www.freelancer.com
 
You set a price, you set your style guidelines and multiple people submit artwork and you pick/pay for the best one.
 
Then just have them printed in bulk as needed or run them through a label system and laser printer.

Run them in containers instead so you have direct access to the hardware (and LPT1>USB adapters and what not)

Yeah, the Rainbow tech dongles will deal with redirection, but the old parallel port SafeNet HardLock parallel port dongles are MF'r's ...

I laugh and tell people all the time, it's my punishment, to be computer savvy, and have to work primarily with legacy computer artifacts for a living ...

Ya that would drive me batshit crazy.  It still pisses me off when I have to use USB > Serial adapters for some old switches.   Makes me want to kick a puppy.

Sadly, most of the time they do it to trap verticals, locking them into proprietary systems.
 
My favorite OS ever was the old, old Amiga OS, in the days of olde, and in the mid-range of "olden times" I like BeOS ...
 
BeOS was tits.
 
If I had to pick one as my favorite it would have to be Sabayon Linux. Based originally on Gentoo it's been one of the strongest Linux distro's since it came on the scene.

I used to be a Gentoo bootstrapper ... whole weekend's of my life, lost, that I can never get back ...
 
These days, in that regard, I'm just a Ubuntu LTS guy ... because when I need *nix, I also require the damn stability and stable upgrade path for the languages and DB's ...
