Bhut_Trolokia and the case of the dying and surviving peppers

I'm trying to home grow some Adjuma Peppers and Jalapeno Peppers on the dirt cheap, to see whether I can get ready to grow superhots next season.
 
About two weeks ago, I put some Adjuma Pepper seeds onto a damp coffee filter in a plastic container with a lid, as I did not have zip lock bags and thought it would be too much of a fuss to deal with seedlings in zip lock bags.
Put it on the radiator on top of a folded towel to keep the maximum heat down.

I tried this before, but it didn't work yet at that time.
Well, now it seems things did work out and I have two seeds sprouting out and I imagine more will follow.
 

 
So it's still a few days worth of waiting before I can transplant those two into soil.

I also have Adjuma seeds in a make-shift ziplock bag in a damp coffee filter, will see what happens there, but not having any hopes up for those.
 
The Jalapeno Peppers seem to be sprouting as well in the soil I planted them in.
Will see to those photos when I see the seedlings pop out the earth.

Any suggestions, tips, help, feedback and critique welcome.

Only 6 days later and much hath changed.

After accidentally letting the Adjuma nursery fall to the ground, I tried to keep the Adjuma seeds sprouting and after a few days transferred the two most promising ones to peat.
On seems to be doing something, but I will have to see whether they'll hook and sprout out.

12 out of the 16 Jalapeno seeds sprouted and are growing reasonably well.
One of the 16 has sprouted, but it is to be seen if it has a future.
They were sown 4 seeds a seeding pot.

They're growing quite fast.

I need to decide which plants to keep together and which to separate, want to keep the 4 out of 4 pot together, see what happens there.
But I'll to to plant it over tomorrow, the roots of two seedlings there broke through the pot in search for water.

I've had them in the sun behind the glass and some of them had their stems go purple.
Is that sunburn and how bad is it?
What to do with regards to exposure to sunlight?
 
Well, a short update.

Four of the Jalapenos are doing fine:



The rest are a bit stunted in growth, but I think that's due to the cups, gotta do them in bigger pots soon:







That little stalk, I hope it will grow.

And this still very small Adjuma, it is that sprouted seeds on the left of the very first image.
Not much hope for this one, but it did not die off yet and it does grow, if only slowly...



I am still trying to sprout Adjuma seed and trying to sprout 4 Lombok seeds and 4 Bell Pepper seeds.

One week later and things are looking good and troublesome.
 
Good as in that my quartet of Jalapeño plants are doing quite fine, with only a few weird spots yet.
Good as in the stunted Adjuma seedling growing slowly, en though it has some weird damage to its stem.
Good as in that the Adjuma and Cayenne seeds sprouted and and seem to be doing fine.
Cayenne, not Lombok though, as Lombok is used for "normal" Cayenne peppers that can be bought in a typical supermarket and I got the Cayenne seeds out of two of such peppers.
 
Bad as in that the rest of the Jalapeño seedlings have barely shown growth, most likely too little water.
Bad as in that the Bell Pepper seedling doesn't seem to grow either that much, but it also had an accident, so I'll have to give it some time to recover.

Well, I already use the sun and my halogen light bulb.

Yeah, I just found it irresistible not to use.

That is fast growth?
Seemed sure slow to me.
 
But no update from me now, just a HDR picture of the big jalapeños I took today.

It is! Considering my peppers are still tiny within the same amount of time. Yours are looking beautiful.
 
My 4 Jalapeños are growing very well...





So well, that I went to topping them today.





I also put the cut off tops into water, in the hope of cloning.

The other Jalapeños don't do that well, I only have 4 left, because I gave away 6 to other people to grow them.
Could it be that they don't get enough water?
What's with that dark spot?

The little Adjuma is growing, but it seems the past days that it is growing slower the last few days, maybe water issues as well.

The Bell pepper is growing quite nicely:

Another update.
 
Things are going quite well, but I have some droopy elongated leaves with my bigger plants, I don't know whether my climate here is the problem or if it is overwatering or something else.
So any advice welcome on what this is.

Apart from that last Adjuma, my peppers grow reasonably well.
 
Things are going well with the pepper plants, though the smaller ones grow slowly and the little Adjuma has had it's last hurrah.

The 4 Jalapeños have grown much and are budding and flowering.
They're a tad leggy, but indoors it seems fine.

The Bell is steadily growing, the Bird's Eyes are doing fine and are nearly ripe for putting into their own pots, and the other Jalapeños have recovered and are growing again, they needed some nutes.

All in all, things are going fine, thank God for that.
Oh yeah, I also planted 2 Bhut Jolokia seeds, just testing whether it is doable next season.
 
Two and a half months later and I got some stuff going here.

The jalapeños riped fine, yet slow.
A thai and adjuma grew, some cayenne, seranno and another jalapeño grew, all of these podding up.
I've got some superhots on the grow among which this nice one:

Things went bad and well...
 
Bad as in that most of my Annuums contracted an unknown disease and seem to be dying from it, other than separation and eventual destruction, I cannot fathom what to do.
They got spots on the leaves and some weird black grains on the back-side were grains from over-watering are as well.
Some seem to have some weird fungus as well on the back-side.
They are dropping leaves like mad.
 
It's a mess and it makes barely any sense.
It doesn't seem to be Bacterial Leaf Spot either.
 
7 dying pepper plants, a possibly dying tomato plant and some weed I cultivated.

I don't know what to do, any suggestions.
If I need to get rid of them, ok, as long as I can protect the other, surviving peppers from this sickness.
 
The surviving peppers are mostly chinense with one Thai as well.
They are doing well and show no signs of disease yet...

Oh yeah, the affected plants emit a sickly sweet smell.

It seems mold is eating those peppers, which are most likely overwatered.
Seems I need to lay off the watering and hope and pray for the best. ;_;

Bump. Wish I could help you with your dying peppers man, but I am not sure what the problem is. Overwatering is definitely one of the most common problems with peppers. I had some overwatering issues earlier in the season due to all of the rain.

So it seems I will get some ripe gnarly superhots, if they don't fall ill as well.
