snack-food Blair's potato chips - $.99.9 store

Saw the Blair's Death Rain Jolokia Pepper Cauldron cooked Potato Chips.
Bought 5 bags...

Like it says on the bag on the thermometer/heat scale thing - WTF.

Opened the bag expecting a Chinense smell...
Just smells like chips.

Grabbed a handful expecting to taste a lot of heat-at least Hab. hot.

Bag says Attention:This product is intended for experienced chiliheads only!!!! Eat responsibly.

Since most Jalapeno or Hab. chips I've tasted were not very hot I figured these might be on the high end of Hab. hot but not Bhut hot.

Wrong-no heat at all.
Tasted like a mild BBQ chip type thing.

OK,OK the $.99.9 store has all the rejects or stuff that didn't make it in the market...
But I expected these to at least tingle my taste buds with at least a little heat...

Just opened a second bag.
Same thing - slightly greasy chips with an OK taste but no heat.

Since some people say I have burned out my taste buds...

I asked several people here at work to tell me what they thought about the chips-telling them they were a spicey chip-not Bhut Jolokia or they wouldn't have tried them just because they are supposed to be super hot.
They know when I say something is warm they might need to be careful from past taste tests of stuff I've grown or smoked.

Only a few people here have the same heat scale as I do,most times.
Stuff I consider spicey/Med. hot they call Lava.

The guy who convinced me these chips aren't hot is the guy who runs for a drink after just looking at a banana pepper.
He liked them saying they were spicey but mild enough that he was going to buy some...

I hope these were a test batch or something.
I've read that Blair's makes some decent sauces etc.

I assume the stuff at the $.99 is a bad batch or something, they are using the $.99 store for a dumpster.

If these are what he is selling/the same recipe or whatever on their site, they are disappointing a lot of customers or going to...

http://extremefood.c...a-Pepper-Chips/

I've never purchased any other products from this Co.
I DO think since it came from the 99 store there is a reson it was there just because the 9 9 isn't the best place to buy high end, specialty items unless it's overstock that needed selling before the expiration date or a bad batch or???

I like buying their chicken patties there(99).
They either contain the 3 patties they are supposed to contain, but 1/3rd of the packs have from 3-6 patties in the pack.
The last batch were 5 or 6 per pack.

I'm not posting this to bad mouth Blair's.
More in line with IF the same product you purchase from Blair's is HOT ,then don't buy the 99 store bags. You'll not get what you think ,it's NOT the same thing.

At the same time I am not a fan of potato chips.Only reason I bought these was because I knew the name Blair's as making some hot stuff (so I've read) and this stuff was cheap.

I do like that the chips are thicker and probably would work well with salsa or ???

A little greasey though , but that seems to change from bag to bag.
The second bag was more greasy than the first.
First one was just slightly greasy (like a lot of the thicker chips are/any brand) where the second one it was noticeable/very noticeable.

My buddy,Heidi loves them. She loves anything that isn't dog food.
She eats everything I do even if it's hot/super hot.
If it's hot she hits up her water bowl and empties her food dish after eating whatever I gave her that was hot.
She didn't even go near her dishes...wants me to open another bag.

So here it is:
After 2 out of 5 bags-

Good:
I liked the Thicker chip
Taste was better than a lot of tater chip flavors.

Bad.
Inconsistent grease content.
No heat/very little if any.

I won't be buying more from the $.99.9 store.

Since I don't care for chips in general I won't pay the website cost to compare the 2 products.

Like I at least insinuated ,I kinda don't think the 99 stuff is what the site sells or it wouldn't be in the store.
Bag is exactly the same as on the site that I got at the 99.

I checked out the website ONLY to see if it was a discontinued product but found it still there for sale.
Gotta be a reason they were at the 99 store. :)
Any super hot product is never in the 99.

The bags were all in perfect condition-full chips-bag airtight(still full of air, balloon like if you know what I mean).

Heidi just talked me into opening bag #3.
Less greasy than the second one.

web address came off the chip pack.

Blair did throw out tonnes of chips during the storms in New Jersey, huge bins load tossed out, hmmmm maybe they made the markets... haha

I really like the Blairs chips as they are the only chips i have found that do have any heat, but currently havent got my hands on any Jolokia ones in OZ yet

I haven't had Blair's chips in a few years, but I do seem to remember them having some heat to them. Kind of a building heat that sneaks up on you... Granted, this was several years ago, so my heat tolerance may have changed...

I am with smokemaster though... I am not a huge fan of potato chips. I prefer tortilla chips, sunchips, or crackers... :)

Well, I have not had the jolokia ones, but I have had countless bags of his habanero chips and they are warm enough that after eating a bag I am sweating a bit. I have heard from some credible sources that the jolokia ones are at least as hot as the hab ones so... I am guessing that you got seconds or something like that. I mean, don't get me wrong they are not going to melt a chilehead's face off, but they are hotter than anything commercial.

Maybe Linda Blair has a new line of potato chips?
REDRUM REDRUM REDRUM!!! yummy thats one good tater chip, although it must be hard to eat um with your head spinning around like that? LOL

Death Rain by Blairs are wonderful

thanks your friend Joe

Mike, I read the $0.99 store batch is GARBAGE...Blair's shipped a defective batch to them with uneven powder coating. The real deal is said to have good heat.

The question is why would any producer want to send poor product anywhere and tarnish their name. I don't get that.

Chris
i suppose for some people money is money and reputation can take a back seat Right!?

thanks your friend Joe

They should at least put a sticker on the bags...

I think you might be getting your movies confused. :D Redrum was The Shining... Linda Blair was the little girl in The Exorcist. Either way, I laughed. :)

I dont post alot but got to chime in here. I just finisheded 3 bags of the Death Rain Jolokia. I loved them. Definitely hotter than anything commercially available. My new favorite chip. I just ordered six more bags.

I've also had some of their chips in the past, and their very tasty, expensive though.
yes but no one makes them the way they do, its seems every other company makes a wimpy one and if they do make one that's any good it doesn't last long before they discontinue it

Finally got a pack of Blairs Jolokia Pepper chips, 85g, $6 a bag WOW, Australia hey hahaha

I think i prefer these over all the other flavours, lots of smokey flavours going on, and a slow deep burn. Not bad, shame about the price tag
