Bonda Ma Jacques flavour

I just tried my first Bonda Ma Jacques. Oh my god. It was heavenly. It was the most citrus like pepper I've ever had. Tasted just like orange rinds but with a bit of sweetness and tang at the same time. The scent is incredible and the heat (to my surprise) was actually VERY hot. Hotter than nearly all the habaneros I've tried. Hotter than an orange hab too. From everythign I've read they are not considerred that hot but it was pretty fiery.

My new favorite pepper for eating :)

right on I am glad you found a new fav! It looks like a tasty pepper. I ate piece of a fatalii the other day and it is rated the same as a hab too however I would swear that it was way hotter than any hab I have eaten! The way you and CP speak of this pepper I will have to grow some next year! I can only hope it will grow as big as your plants lol.
 
Got one that just ripened all the way today. Yoop might be stopping by this weekend, so we may have to do some cooking and some eatin' with it!
Now if the damn Fatalli's will hurry the hell up....
 
The Bonda Ma Jaques I was eating in St. Lucia definitely hit me harder than orange habs do. I haven't gotten any pods on my plants yet this year, but they are flowering again so I may get a fall crop to double check them. They definitely have more of an overall burn to me, where as habs are more of a focused sting on my lips and front of my tongue.
 
Definitely not the case for the one I tried. It really kicked my butt good. Felt like 2x the heat of an orange hab. It was pretty nuts but so was the incredible flavour.

One of my favorites. In my opinion its kind of like a milder fatalii but the flavor may be a little more intense too!

Is it possible that my Bonda Ma Jacques is something else? I cut it in half and there is huge amounts of placental tissue and it runs down right to the tip. I was pulling the seeds out with an Xacto knife and noticed that there is a huge amount of oil in this pepper... Can this thing be a Fatalii and maybe thats why it was a real scorcher? They look similar no?
 
Its an awesome ... but having tasted it again and seeing how much oil is inside this thing, I am wondering if its possible that its a fatalii or maybe something that looks like a Bonda Ma Jacques but way hotter. This pepper really packs a punch waaaay beyond any orange hab I've ever had. The Bonda is not supposed to be as hot as an orange hab as it is.... It has been growing side by side along with my Naga Morich plant so wonder if I've got some crazy cross. LOL.

The pic looks just like a Bonda, mine grow very prolific and are pretty hot too. Definantly makes me sweat!
 
Looks like a Bonda ma Jacque to me, and it couldn't have been crossed, unless it happened in previous years.
Its difficult to try to compare them to orange habs since orange habs vary a lot in heat. Some orange habs are just as hot as fatalii and some are less than half the heat.

Brutally hot and full of flavor, sadly i'm not the biggest chinense fan but many out there should switch to this from standard habaneros for an extra kick ;)
The plants also had ZERO issues.

Very different. Jamaican hot chocolate are my favorite Habanero. They taste slightly similar to Orange Habs, but with a smokiness, richness and deep earthiness. It`s a bit like comparing Bud light to a German Lager. They are both beer, but one is pale and lacking in flavor, but will do if there`s nothing else, the other is bigger, has a lot more going on and is much more complex. 
 
Bonda ma Jacques, to me, are more like a Fatalii crossed with a Scotch Bonnet. Fataliis are big and citrusy, with a lot of great flavor, but they taste quite different to a regular habanero. Scotch bonnets have a flavor all their own. The Bonda has an element of both, but is also hotter than both.
