bpiela 2020 grow + OW's

Getting to the point where I will start seedlings for 2020.  Still finalizing seed lists.  I need to buy some new lights this year. 
 
I have brought inside the following plants that I grew in containers with plans to overwinter:
 
Amarillear
7 Pot Bubblegum White
Aji Charapita
Bhut Jolokia Red
Bhut Jolokia White W Strain
Bonda Mahala F4
CAP 691
Mini Red Rocoto x2
Riesen Rocoto
Rocoto Yellow
 
The Aji Charapita was not happy and quickly perished.  The other plants are doing well, but I seem to have gotten a bit of an aphid infestation.  My plan is to take the plants out of the containers, recycle the old soil into my garden beds, wash the plants off and douse in Insecticidal soap, trim root ball if needed, trim plants if needed and replant back into the same container with new soil.  I am thinking of using Pro-Mix for the soil.

As far as aphids go, my problem child is a two-year-old Large Orange Thai that was put through the same regimen you describe: Plant was removed from existing four gallon container, washed, neemed & rinsed again, rootball trimmed, foliage trimmed way back, replanted in fresh new soil out of the bag into a 5 gallon ceramic planter, and within weeks was overrun with green peach bastiges. I've been inspecting and removing entire leaves full of newborns daily, watering as needed with SNS209 drench (rosemary extract), and even occasionally respraying with a .9% neem oil extract. There are a multitude of spiderwebs in the container so I assume there are predators, yet reinfestation continues. The plants around it are amazingly unaffected.
 
Not saying this to discourage, but to let you know you ain't alone.... :welcome:
 
Another knowledgeable member here recommends Azamax, it may well be where I wind up next, though it's pricey....

I have never seen a spider eat an aphid. I think
they are too disgusting even for spiders   :lol:
 
The guy at the grow store I frequent said Azamax
is a NEEM derivative.

I have found a thorough spray with insecticidal
soap followed in a day or two with a good spray
of NEEM works here.
 
I too have used the dish soap/veggie oil/water route, but the necessity to rinse becomes problematic where I am. Can't go out and just turn the hose on 'em, ya know. The Darlin' Bride would have me out if she caught me in the tub or even her laundry slop sink with a potential mudpuddle situation...
 
Starting to throw down seeds for the coming grow season in 2020.  Starting a tad early this year.  No real reason why.  With my setup, I will be starting 100 different chinense and crosses this year.  Some will be started this year, most will go down once the New Year comes.  Within those 100 plants, I am including 5 frutescens as well.  I did not get a great yield last year from my fruts so I am going to try to start them earlier.  Most seeds are from whitehotpeppers.com but got some off of the seed train this year, some purchased from Jim Duffy, trades with PaulG and Jedisushi06, saved seed, etc.  Anyways, here is my list.  I am listing in alphabetical order but that is not the order I am going to start them.

I plan on 3 Chinense myself this next season, just not as big a fan, I guess. The Aji Limos that I grew by accident 3 years ago are about the most versatile Chinense I've grown.
 
Now watch for those bugs, man! Get on 'em like white on Christmas, those damned peach green aphids take up a huge part of every day for me, can't figure out where they keep coming from!

Those aphids are a real struggle.  If I don't get rid of them now, things will start sucking badly when I transplant the seedlings to pots.  I am going to go for some Azamax.

I hear that, Ben! I've been  using the search and pinch
method, but decided I'm going to spray with some
insecticidal soap before they get too bad.
 
Been a while since I updated.  On the OW front, the CAP 691 died, but the other plants are hanging in there.  Still battling aphids.  They are evil.
 
I have pretty much started all of my seeds listed above.  I use the Park Seeds Bio Domes for germination.  I do three cells per plant and anywhere from 2 to 4 seeds per cell.  All I want is one seed to germ per cell.  Any others in the cell will be culled when I move them to 3x3 square pots.  I typically take the best growing seedling and cull the rest (per cell).  So, I will list was has popped for me thus far and how many cells I have per pepper name.  3 means that all three cells have germinated.  If the plant isn't listed, that means I just put down those seeds today.

Of course, I am a little bummed about the zero's so far.  I will keep patiently waiting for a couple more weeks on those.  Two of those, the Orange Ribbon and the VV7 Scorpion I had purchased those seeds new this year.  The Aji Charapita were from saved seeds from last year.  Not sure how I screwed that up.  What ev's.  I got more than enough.  That is part of the reason why I start so many.

Next steps is to start potting up.  Hopefully will start that this week.  Once in pots, I will post pics.
