bpiela glog 2018 - Giving it another go...

Ok.  Just started cleaning up my grow area.  Will be starting seeds tomorrow.

Last year was brutal so I am trying  some new things this year.

1. No overwinters.  I am hoping that in the past, the plants I brought in to overwinter were the source of the many aphids I have battled.  I guess the aphids could also be coming in from the soil I purchase, which is either Fox Farms Happy Frog or Miracle-Gro Potting mix.  I haven't nuked the soil in the past because we use our microwave for food.  If I can get a used microwave, then I might try to nuke the soil first...
2. Airflow.  I am going to increase airflow by a bunch.  Looking to get a couple more cheap standing fans and have them on blasting the plants for the period of time that the lights are on, which is 18 hours.
3. I am starting my plants a little later this year.  Well maybe not all of them. :liar:  Well last year, I started the chinenses in mid December.  This year will be more like mid January although I will start a few tomorrow since I want to start the Growdown Yellow Brain Strains ASAP.  Baccatums I started end of January last year and Annuums I started mid February of last year.  I am going to move both of them to mid March.
4. Quantity.  I don't know what to do here.  I just like to start a ton of stuff because there are just too many pepper varieties still to try.  If I am able to somehow keep the bugs away and am successful indoors, then I would like to sell extra plants locally for a minimal price.  I have about 120 varieties that I will attempt to grow this year.

I still have the Park's Bio Domes for seed starting.  I have been fairly successful there so no need to change.

So, for the first dome, I will be planting the following starting tomorrow.  Pics to follow once hooks arise.

Right Hand Side of Dome
Bonda Ma Jacques
Bonda Mahala
Jonah Yellow Brain
Buckeye Bhutlah
CAP 691
Carbonero Sherwoods
Swiss Chocolate
Purple Carolina Reaper
Super Datil
Yellow Brain Strain (Growdown)

Left Hand Side of Dome
Fatalii
Gourmet Jigsaw Fatalii
Orange Scorpion Fatalii
Genghis Khan Brain
Habanero Adalberto
Habanero Mustard
Habanero Roatan
Habanero White Bullet
Yellow Hand Grenade
Yellow 7Pot Cross F3

That is all for now.

I was potting up some plants into containers and I came across something.  On this CAP 691 plant, I think there are eggs of some sort.  I think I have seen this before but I am forgetting at the moment what they are.  Here is a cropped pic:

This is a slightly different angle that lets you see the "thread" that is attached to the plant.

Anyone know what this is and if I should just clean it off of the plant?

Thanks in advance!

Some updates.

Here is an Ammazzo or Joe's Round or Cherry Bomb or whatever you want to call it.  Grew it from seeds I saved from a plant purchased from CCN.

Here is a pod on a Roatan Habanero.  Got the seeds from Texas Hot Peppers.  I grew three of them, but this one has some purple in it.  Should be an interesting cross.

And my Yellow Brainstrain has a bunch of pods...

Some more pics.  I didn't really give away/sell all of my extra plants and I am uncertain what to do about them.  I have been potting up as many as I can but I am running out of room.  Here is a pic of all of the remaining plants.  All are flowering.  Many have pods.

Some pod pics from the baccatum area.  Here is a Sugar Rush Peach:

Here is a plant that not doing well.  A Carbonero Sherwoods.  Not sure if this is slug damage.

All for now.

Oh yeah, forgot about this plant.  I collected the seeds from a potted plant in a Korean BBQ in Fairlawn, NJ.  It was late in the year and the pods on the plant were red and pretty much dried out.  I thought it was a Super Chile or something similar.  Looks like the pods go from white to purple to red.  Pretty cool surprise.

Well done Ben!

That second pod from the left looks a lot like a Jimmy Nardello.

Yeah, that is the Relleno from seeds I purchased from Reimers.  It has a little heat to it as well...

Latest pics from the garden.

Super Chile has ripened pods.

I'm glad you didn't give up after the bug attack last year, Ben. You have some really great stuff goin' on!

I'm so far behind you, finally have flowers blooming and a few pods setting, but heck, my tallest plant is still less than a foot!

That Carbonero plant might have a hornworm camping in the dirt below. I had one last year, same damage.

For historical purposes, I am posting pics of the whole garden.  There are 7 rows of plants.

First row as I enter the garden are the frutescens and some oddball crosses.  You can see the tabasco with many pods growing upwards.  Other than that, not a ton of pods in this row as of yet.
T9msHId.jpg

Second row in is all chinense.  In the front is a Tshololo Orange that has the purple leaves.  It is a strong plant and will produce a bunch of pods.
AI9xnWT.jpg

Third row is all chinense.  In the middle of the row on the right is a Beni Highlands with light colored leaves.  Not a tall plant.
wtbSGYn.jpg

Fourth row is all chinense.  Towards the back of the row are my Big Mamas.  Those plants are big.
Zmrrrs5.jpg

Fifth row is the first row of annuums.  Front right you can see the thai peppers and in the back on the right grow some jalapenos.
KZmqmKH.jpg

Sixth row is the second row of annuums.  You can see the Super Chili's on the right, which are right across from some Ammazzos.  In front of the Super Chili's are those cool purple peppers I got the seeds from the Korean BBQ place near me.

Seventh and last row is the baccatums.  You cannot see them from this pic, but there are a bunch of pods growing here.

Well, it is that time of year that the pepper maggots show up.  I didn't get any pictures of the actual flies but here is some of the damage.

It looks like they really like my El Oro de Ecuador pods.

Here are some El Oro de Ecuador pods with some Peachadews and a Sugar Rush Cream.
