Brittlewater's 2016 Indoor Grow

Hi,

It's my first time growing super hots and also my first time growing indoors. I decided to grow indoors due to the climate in my area and limited grow season. I planted Bhut Jolokia, Carolina Reaper, and Trinidad Moruga Scorpion pepper plants. The seeds were mostly from Pepper Joe's. I started the seeds in a Jiffy peat moss seed started with a heating mat underneath. The seeds sprouted on 12/26/15. The germination rate wasn't that great around 50 - 70% for most of the peppers. I planted 10 douglah seeds but zero sprouted. I plan to post progress pics of this years grow to this glog.

Transplanted to a grow box that has soil suspended above a water reservoir. There is a heater controlling temperature between 70- 85 deg F. I am using red/blue LED lights set to 14 hours on 10 off.

Progress pic on 2/16/16. One of the ghost pepper plants decided to die between the last pic and this one. Not sure why, when I removed it the roots were not well developed. The plants around it expanded into its area very quickly.

On 2/28/16 I added a external reservoir tank. I have to go out of town for several weeks at a time. This set up allows the plants to be fully automated for up to a month. The water is continuously circulated between the larger tank and the bottom of the grow box. The water level in the grow box is always maintained at the same level with the excess draining back to the reservoir tank.

3/10/16 Progress pic. Most of the flowers that were on the plants for the last 2 weeks have fallen off. There are still a lot of flowers on the plants. I do not see any peppers forming yet.

just need a fan, dont need to do manual pollinating.
first buds always fall off.

really nice progress on the grow box btw!
I have a small fan in the room to circulate air. I aimed it at the plants and turned it up a notch to help with pollination.

I prefer manual... it speeds up the process and guarantees results.   ;)

The soil compartment on top extends to the bottom of the water compartment in 2 places. The 2 dirt legs are packed soil held together by a mesh screen. The water wicks up the 2 dirt legs to the rest of the dirt chamber.

Update 4/10/16

I was away for a couple of weeks and came home to find a few peppers growing and also some issues. The peppers look similar to a banana pepper, not the reaper or scorpion peppers that should be on the plants. I may not have gotten the correct seeds. My ghost pepper plant just started to grow it's first pepper and I will see in a while what it looks like (hopefully a ghost pepper).

I noticed white crystals under a lot of the leaves on the plants. I believe this is edema. What I have read this is due to the humidity being too high. Since my grow room is a small closet I don't think there was enough ventilation and the humidity has been around 50-60%. I am going to have to leave the door cracked open some. I also changed to a larger fan.

The ghost pepper plant in the front left is growing much taller then the other plants and spreading out. It overtook the plant behind it which died as it can not get the light it needs.
