Brocoli's 2016 Chiliskies

Greetings,

I've never done a Glog before, and I am new around here, but lets go!

This year is my 3rd year buying seeds and starting them on my own. I have been buying plants at big box stores for years before that. Its also my first year with a heat mat and germ dome. Makes it alot easier for sure. Last year I started around March 1st in a terrible seed blend and it put me far behind, but they all eventually caught up. I also moved during that time as well. So this year we are gonna boogie-oogie-oogie! (ihope)

So far my house has peppers and herbs on all the window sills, and I am starting more. I have a front bay window that gets good amount of light, its currently holding the germ dome and heat mat, maybe a dozen peppers in 3.5" white pots, red amaryllis, and 3 peppers in I think quarter gallon pots. (they let me know my house water/pump was bad, they look terrible but I wont give up on em! 2 are cuttings from a Golden Cayenne I was just messing around with and 1 Peach Hab that was throwing pods for me sitting my bedroom window, made good respesado tequila!)

I also use my bedroom window with a tray. it gets awesome morning light and indirect but bright light all day. I supplement it with a 27w all spectrum LED grow bulb. Ive had 3 rounds of planting seeds so far. I started planting on 1/10/16 and just planted some the other tonight.

I plan to get a few plants at local nurseries this year and I will add those in when I get them. Especially tomatoes, I only have room for so much in the house so its designated for the ones I cant find. I tried to overwinter some plants this year but they seem kaput, the pansies are still nice and green though.

The Indigo series of tomatoes has been itching me for the last few years, so this year I just want to scratch it good and try them all I could find! I think there was one called Sun Flare I had a few years ago but I couldnt find it. I know little about tomato species and origins and such.

Im conisdering getting another LED bulb as I am quite happy with these results. I need to do more research before I go and get a 600w or 1000w mh/hps/cmh light. I have 1 250w MH and 1 250w HPS gifted to me, but they are atleast 20 years old, I'm nervous to use them.

Everything is in Pro-mix BX mixed with Happy Frog potting soil. I mix in a 5g bucket at the moment and probably do 4:1 Pro-mix to HF. So far everyones happy. Seeds started in Miracle Grow Seedling Blend with good results. I used Organic Mechanics seed blend last year with pretty disastrous results.

Everything will go outside eventually into anything from 5-15g pots. Some if I have doubles Ill just plant outside as throw aways in flower beds or wherever. I cant bring myself to just trash a pepper, I figure planting it anywhere is better than just trashing it. Since theres only a few 10-15g pots, I havent decided who gets the big pots yet. Always a fun job.

As soon as I figure out a mobile pic uploader that works on android and here or get a cable for my PC, Ill upload new pics.

2016 pics to follow.. eventually. ;)

Back finally.

Plants are catching up pretty good now. Ive only only watered with Neptunes Harvest once, all others just water. last week/2 have been in the 90F with heat index from 105-112F. :hot:

Some of my plants have had what I think is BER on some pods, so I have been thinking about a low dose of calimagic the next time I water.

The smash beer turned out to be a sugary bleh. Back to the drawing board.

On a side note, I think I am going to get a grow tent, or build an enclosure to grow some peppers hydroponically over the winter. I havent decided on what method yet, but I think a area thatd fit 4 5g buckets would be nice.

Now for the PICS!

5t6Rccyh.jpg

CGN21500 - I thought it was suppose to be cream/purplish.. but its delicious that cherry red color. Too many seeds though, I deseeded and ate a half at a time.

vqTjiSNh.jpg

Trinidad Perfume - These are definitely a grow again. Very tasty, cut one up and put it on tilapia. Might be a front runner candidate for my possible winter project. Doubt there will be any left to save.

G1dzkhlh.jpg

Scotch Bonnet, supposedly. I dont know if ive even tasted real Scotch Bonnets before, I've always be given plants labeled scotch bonnets that turn out to look more habanero-ish. In the back is one type of my Caribbean Red Hot cross. I think its serrano x caribbean red hot. then a bush of Cuban Basil behind that.

Aji Fantasy - I cant tell if theyre ripe or not... this picture makes it seem like the ones on the right are ripe, but I thought they were suppose to be more creamy than yellowy? Theyve been on forever it feels like.

m2ozgVHh.jpg

Golden Bhut Jolokia - I have two of these plants that are producing wicked pods.

aFsb2Q9h.jpg

I love the way Bhuts look.

NuMex Suave Orange

QLDzJgPh.jpg

Aji Mango - Really enjoyed the flavor of these, not too hot though, less than a Hot Lemon.

G7cJx0ph.jpg

Purple Serrano - probably my favorite looking plant of the year, definitely going to grow these again, pods taste good too, not really hot at all.. maybe the next wave will be hotter.  Back left there is a ripening Chocolate Moruga and to the right is a ripe 7pot Jonah Orange.

So glad to have a capable phone again. Ill get some tomato shots in the next update and spread the love. Most of the Indigo cherries dont make it far off the plant before being devoured.

JHC go right from green to chocolate.
Thanks, I thought so, first time growing them this year.. well not growing them this year  I have no idea what those could be either. I think I have another plant from that same seed pack growing, I'll have to find it and see what the pods look like.

my JHC look almost exactly like my standard Choc Habs. I'll be doing a side by side taste test soon.

Small weekend update:

First a rockin tune -->

Second a rockin brew that gets hotter the more you let it warm up -->

Okay, now that business has been settled.. I didnt do anything this weekend except take a couple of snaps and try my hand at a hot sauce.. I was suppose to brew beer this weekend, but things got changed, so I figured I have to make something.

js3VhgZh.jpg

Since this is my first time at making a hot sauce, I tried to go for a basic Louisiana style hot sauce. I planned to use these guys here, Mini Sweet Chocolate bells, Hot Portugals, and Orange Banana tomatoes. After cutting a piece from the Hot Portugal and realizing it had no heat, I opted for...

9cIsC4Sh.jpg

...CGN21500 because it has a nice heat and flavor that I thought would make a good hot sauce. I blended those together (minus hot portugals) then simmered for about 40 minutes since it took forever to get up to a simmer. I then funneled it into 2 bottles, but its unfiltered because I forgot to strain it before I cooked it. I believe I used way too much vinegar and water.. guess I'll find out when I try it later..

Now for some pod pics..

Not Jamaican Hot Chocolate... I have no idea what it could be, the left looks like a tongue though.

Guess my Golden Bhut Jolokia isnt so Golden after all...

Thats it for now, I'll get more sometime this week. Pretty sure one of my Trinidad Perfumes is loaded with ripe pods. Its hard to get pic's of my tomatoes, since theyre behind the volunteer Cleome's and theyre such mess of tree bushes that in a pic it just looks like a mess.. heres one thats not even behind anything but still a mess..
EG4JbXJh.jpg

Center is the Orange Banana tomato, then clock wise its a planter with cali's in it, behind that is a, I believe Doughlah pepper, then a Summer Snowflake Viburnum, African Blue Basil monster bush, then a grouping of Cherry Swizzle Zinnia's. Most of my inground tomatoes are now surrounded by stuff like that. Very good tomatoes though.
pAEa7gIh.jpg

Thats what I think is a Doughlah, see the tomato branch? Thats the Orange Banana, its stretching over everything. I almost gave that plant away this year too, very glad I didnt, pretty sure Im going to grow it out again.

'Til next time.

Lets get a proper update here, shall we?
