Brood II is coming... Could cicadas break my peppers?

I read in the local paper here in nyc the 17 year cycle is coming. I don't remember them 17 years ago but back then I was playing cops and robbers and the closest piece of property to me was central park and that was a few blocks away. Now that I actually have a postage size piece of property I will see if I get infested.
