So I see some of my cabbages are finally ready so I pull one up. It's infested from the inside out with earwigs, who have eaten 90% of the interior leaves...
Pulled up a parsnip cuz it was all wilted looking even though I'd just watered. Some sort of maggot-like infestation. Grabbed a turnip, same problem. Checked my carrots... no problem. lucky I guess.
Next year I'm going to grow my cabbages, parsnips & turnips in a raised bed.. gotta figure out how to cover them... and I will use nothing but bagged potting soil to try and mitigate the ability of these pests to infiltrate.
Or maybe I just grow nothing but peppers, beans, zucchini, lettuce, carrots, kale, chard, beets and herbs next year.
