Buncha Malarky 2018 edition

Welcome to 2018
There is probably not going to be a whole lot of action around here until March 1st when I'll start soaking seeds.
I was overwhelmed in 2017, starting in January was not a good idea. This year I plan to pot up the plants in stride and avoid being root bound. Starting in March and outside in buckets in the middle to end of May. I'll probably try to sell excess plants locally on CL/FB as well, instead of trying to keep every seed I sprout alive myself.

2018 Grow List so far...
SB7J
7pot Cinder
PDN x Bonda
Peach Bhut-WM strain
CGN21500-WM strain
LemonDrop
PapaDreadie SS-Good Pheno from TGCM
Aji Limo Rojo
Aji Limo Amarillo
Aji Panca
Giant Red Rocoto
Peruvian Red Rocoto-OW
Yellow Brainstrain-Growdown

I'm really struggling to decide if I should grow Aji Amarillo, Big Red Rocoto's, and maybe even Panca now that I found frozen amarillos/rocotos and panca paste at the store now. And the amarillos and rocoto's take soo long to ripen...
I'd like to fit in Aji Dulce, Aji Arnaucho, cgn23209, SugarRush Peach and Trepadeira do Werner, but I don't know.

I've got enough BahaGoats in the freezer to last me I think. I actually might have enough Amarillos too now that I think of it.
I'm growing cgn21500 just to finally get it off my bucket list. I hope its good.
The more I type, the more bummed i get that i can't grow all these...

So how'd you do temp-wise the other night, Matt? Get that 39?

I apparently don't rate a frost this year, going straight to hard freeze on Saturday. Looks like you had a great go!
Yeah it got down there. pretty cold
I had a good season. I eaten too many fresh peppers this year. stocking alot away in the freezer for sauce and jelly.
I still have a lot ripening right now. the plants are pretty colorful.
but the next couple weeks, my highs are going to be in the 50's...so i'm trying to decide if I want to overwinter anything.
We moved my son into a different bedroom...my room, with the south facing window...soo i'll be stuck in the basement now for overwinters. we'll see how that affects them. I may keep them upstairs for awhile they recover from digging and cutting back.

BUT, the rocoto's seem to do great in my basement. We'll see. I may keep my Peruvian Red, just cuz its been through 2 seasons now.

I'm not too attached to any of them this season.

I made a "pepper slumgullian" soup in the slow cooker yesterday, right after I'd picked all the greens and semi-ripes that I thought might be palatable. We got down to 35 here, and yes, there was frost out there. There's a weighed-down Aji Arnaucho in the 8th acre I so want to dig up, but I just don't have the space.

Yeah, the Rocotos...I'm keeping my Turbo, an Aji Oro and a Peruvian Red (cutworm survivor), so far, anyway. They are so versatile! Also I brought in my Aji Amarillo, Aji Mango and a Large Orange Thai that just takes too long up here to ripen in Zone 3. I'm going to agonize over the Arnaucho until I just go get it.

I'm really impressed with the quality and quantity of your produce, Matt. You make me wish I'd grown some Aji Limos (I gave my one plant away last Spring) this season, they're a pepper that really did well here last season, and they were sowed by accident, the seed mixed with Aji Amarillo seed that PaulG had gotten from a friend in Peru. Yummy too...

Our temps are forecast to moderate after the weekend, but Saturday morning is now forecast to 27, I'll cover them but have little hope. Our pump is ailing, so running a sprinkler all night is out of the question.

Salute, my friend!!
