Can I use triple mix in pots?

"Triple mix is a mixture of three equal parts of topsoil, peat, and compost" (From Wikipedia)
Is it strictly a garden mix?

Peat is not heavy nor is compost. They are both used to break down heavy clay soil and improve drainage, in fact. I've used peat moss and mushroom compost by themselves in pots and had no problems whatsoever. As long as the top soil is good quality, it should be okay. Perlite would be beneficial too.

Go to the Growing Hot Peppers" forum and click on the "All about soil" thread. It'll tell you all you need to know about various soils.

Meinchoh is right on. Toss in a couple handfuls of perlite or chunky vermiculite (whatever is easier or cheaper to get a hold of) and call it done. You should be good.

To answer the original poster's question:Triple Mix wasn't intended for containers.

Agreed with Proud Marine Dad: compost, peat and good amount of perlite. Many have done it here in the past and the plants can end up gigantic.

You can subsitute Peat with some Pine Bark fines (the smaller pieces of shredded pine bark mulch), inexpensive and good draining filler.
