I guess it's one of the two original seasonings for a reason. Now if I could just figure out why people are using Piper nigrum instead of powdered CGN 21500...

 
Black Pepper is very different flavour from chilli and a different form of heat. I've been nibbling Reapers and Scorps lately but a hot black pepper sauce'll still get me streaming.
Why people prefer black pepper I'll never understand but I guess being the first discovered of the two (in the west) has some serious impact on its part in tradition.
