CAPCOMS COCOA GROW 2017

I am starting early this year. maybe 3-4 weeks left here for outdoor growing and it will be time to put most of it to rest. I will be bringing a few plants indoors for the winter and as such, my seed starts my be more restricted this year. Lots of white flies showing up this fall and I would like to check them before the indoor retreat. Aphids? Yeah, they may hitch a ride but they are of no concern to me.

Big changes to next years grow. going to container grow again, but I am upgrading to 10 and 15 gal pots. haven't decided which yet though. 10s are wider and 15 gal are deeper.

I will continue using Nectar for the Gods nutrient line as it has not let me down and I am making inquiries as to setting up a tea making process as well.

My seed starts will be determined by what varieties I can obtain in the next few months and my inventory. I will post a list of them shortly, as well as my extended grow plants.

Oh, why cocoa grow 2017? cause 95% of my grow this coming year is going to be chocolates. So I will be looking for anything and everything chocolate and high heat is of no concern.

Waiting for hydro shop to open. Hopefully I won't need to buy growing media for a long time now. I just need a 2 ton dump truck to mix and amend it each year.

Our extended forecast is very favorable. I will be pulling half the grow out this week to restart the hardening off process. At the same time the room that I will be creating will be consumed immediately by sale plant transplants.

Plants were moved outside on Friday night. Had a frost last night and another forecast for tonight. I put a tarp over the shade cloth both nights. The plants come hell or high water are out to stay. If need be I will top them at the 3rd node and let them branch from there. As time permits I have been emptying last years containers and refilling compacted to get an idea of were I stand with plant to container ready status. I should be fine with the exception I am jumping from 5 gal containers to 15 gal containers. I guess we will see next Saturday.

Was a hard frost Sunday night. Ice all over the tarp Monday morning around 5:20 when I removed it. It was roughly 34° at the time. Plants are all looking great and now 4 days into hardening off. Rain was in the forecast for Saturday but by the time it gets here, that may be pushed to Monday. That would be great cause the next weekend is out of the question for planting. Started potting up sale plants this week. They will take of like crazy just being in the solo cups with the Mykos. pics to follow when phone becomes available again.

It was dark when I finished for the day. 24-15 gal containers and 47-5 gal containers. Pictured is a partial of the 15s. It was my intention to go all 15s and 20s in the beginning of this thread but because of grow area I went with 15s exclusively. A last minute wrench in the gears was delivered last week when I went to pick up the balance on my sunshine commitment. With only the 5 bales I already had to work with and 24 containers to fill and over 100 plants to accommodate I had no choice but to commit a large portion of the grow to 5 gal containers.

I managed to get many of my prime variety plants into the 15s as well as my 7 pot burgundy bonchi which fared very well during the whole hardening off processes.
Will post more pics when the new days light arrives.

Say, Jeff, looking very good in your neighborhood

Glad your plants escaped damage in the hard frost,
way to take action, buddy

Time for an update. My grow over come all it was put through this spring but did develop some stress related issues. So far they are only cosmetic and as such I have embarked on a campaign of trimming and topping. I generally will not top plants but some of their conditions warranted it. I dont see topping as problematic, I just do not subscribe to it as a ritual. Other that that, new growth is shooting out all over and a heat wave next week will have very positive effects on their overall well being.

looks like new branches are coming about to explode your growth. =]

Yeah, If we start getting some consistent hot weather that will surely happen. Been wet and cooler as of late and that has the massive growth potential in limbo. A typical July and August will be a most welcome development.

Wow! Everything is looking fantastically! Those side branches are screamin' to come out! You've got a ton of pods in your future. Great job!

I suspect they will do exactly that very soon.

Great to see so many containers... is security a problem as they look to be out on your front lawn have you known the local neighbors lean over the fence and help themselves
No, my biggest concern was whole plants walking away. But after moving them around a bit myself and only several feet at a time, I am not too worried about the 15 gal pots. The others? Never been an issue before but still keep an eye out.

I have come to the realization that if I continue to grow pepper plants in the quantity I am used to, I will need to start them a month later or reorganize the growroom drastically.
I will have to set a firm limit of 100 plants with a one each backup start if I change nothing but sow date. Tough decisions ahead. This year's plants were ready to go outside a month early in their 1 gal pots. That created problems in itself.

Thanks all for the fine compliments. It is always a great thing to receive appreciative comments for something you work hard to accomplish.

That exact scenario happened to a gardener in my neighborhood.  The scumbag who took them had them in all the same pots, in a shady spot of the lawn (shadiness on top of shadiness, i guess) when he got caught with'm.  the plants were beat up, but most of'm bounced back, according to the victim.  With plants as nice as yours, i'd be worried about it, for sure.

If I lived in your neighborhood, i'd leave the plants where they were, but I'd be tempted to steal a few pods.  :P
