capsaicin Capsaicin ban?

Apparently the food standards agency has banned the use of cap extract in foods? Is this going to spell the end for things such as extract based sauces in Europe?

Not sure I'd mind the ban flavour wise, extract sauces taste foul IMO. But they're fun to whack out once in a while for the chuckles, y'know?

Also AJ, in the "guitar porn" threat, you mentioned about vintage mandolins? I've posted something up there along those lines, might interest you?

can you elaborate on the use of ketones? are you referring to the use of ketones as solvents to extract capsacinoids?

yes, and IMO that is what gives the extracts that metallic aftertaste
 
Only pure cap is banned (crystal). Oleoresins of a lesser SHU value than pure cap are not covered by the ban. Also, there is a period of grace covering any product containing pure cap; it is legal to sell these products until the best before/use by date expires.
