Carlos Cancun Habanero

Carlos Cancun because Carlos braught me back Habanero pods from Cancun when he went to visit family years ago.

Grown under LEDs.5mm ,red in 625nm-660nm,Blue 425nm-470nm. 9 different wavelengths in a ratio of 6 reds to 1 blue.

Grown in a 30yr. old hydroponic setup I baught at Target or Kmart on sale for $20.00.
Vermiculite media, runs on an air pump like the small aquarium filters.
Dyna-gro fert. 7-9-5 with a shot of wicthes brew for calcium and mag.
Witches brew is Dolomite lime disolved in 5% vinegar-Homemade Calcium acetate.
Dolomite lime has a small percentage of magnesium in it so I'm assuming it becomes part of the brew.

Plant is about 10 in high and 6 wide+/- and a couple months old at most.Sowed the seed on Jan.1st.Don't know how long it took to sprout...
The chopstick was holding it from leaning over-vermiculite isn't the best anchor...

The plant is very dark green, the flash made it look lots different.

Only reason I messed with 5mm LEDs was they were cheep.
A lot were 1500-2500 LEDs for $.99 with free shipping or up to $12.00 shipping.

Each Pannel is between 100 and 120 LEDs,depending on string length etc.
They are 3in. X 4in +/- in size.
It takes about 1 hr to assemble 1 pannel.
I'm not crazy,I work 14 hr. days with nothing to do.Soldering LEDs killed time.

Don't bother with 5mm Leds unless you plan on spending a LOT of time soldering.

I only messed with the 5mm LEDs to play with them. They are very cheep and I have a lot of time to kill between 5pm and 8am ,7 days a week.

I use mostly star LEDs now.
I buy then for about $1.00 each.
Resistors are about 1cent or less each, depending on their value.

Once I get all my Star LEDs assembled I'll use stars above my plants with the 5mm Leds vertically around 3 sides instead of mylar or whatever.

When plant first hooked,I added more pannels later as the plant grew.

5mm LEDs are only bright enough from about 12 or so inches away, some up to 18in max.

In my opinion they are OK for a 4ft. x 18in. grow shelf as supplimental light on the sides like I use them.
They add extra wavelengths of light that I can't get in stars.
I do use some 280,000mcd 10 mm LEDs that are about 20-50Lm each.

All the pannels are individually assembled and twist tied to the banboo skewers.
Each pannel is set up with 2 positive and 2 negative wires so,depending on the power source I can hook them up in any number that the supply will support.
I use wire nuts to electrically hook them up.
Each Pannel uses 360-540ma. at 12volts.
The mcd(candlepower) of each batch of LEDs runs from 2000mcd to 50,000mcd.
Thats roughly between 1Lm. to 4lm each.Depending on angle etc.
As you can see you have to use a ton of the little buggers if you use 5mm LEDs.
That means each pannel only puts out between 100 and 400Lm.

This was/is just an experiment I did to see what LEDs actually can do compared to what I read on the internet which is a lot of half truths or outright bs.
You don't use LEDs like Fluoros or other light sources.
A whole different animal.
They are mini spotlights and must be treated as such...angle of the beam means a lot.
