Carving pumpkins

Usually we get a carving kit and do pumpkins with a pattern. This year we let the girls just draw a face and cut them out.

Anyone else have some good pumpkin pics?

Very nice guys. Thanks for sharing.
We do the same thing. Old school is the best

I agree. Every year since I've had kids, we've gotten stencils. I wanted the girls to experience the creative part this year instead of cut and paste.

Although there's nothing wrong with stencils. I love all the cool stuff you can do. I just wanted a change of pace this year.

i dont have kids, nor do i live anywares where a tricker treater would be unless they walked 10 miles from the nearest neighboorhood. so i havent messed with them in years, but i loved it when i was little. also my favorite part is baking the pumpkin seeds, holy crap i might have to go buy a pumpkin just for those yummy seeds.

We can't cut them until the day of or day before or they rot in the heat so just set up the display with the kins so far including the 250Lber we grew this year will post another pic once it is carved but here is the display we put up today ! - Didn't have much luck with the regular pumpkins this year so just have the Lumina's and the Atlantic Giant and one small orange kin .

I have a pretty big bowl of seeds waiting to go in the oven. We're gonna do some sugar and cinnamon, and some salted. I wanted to try some hot and spicy pumpkin seeds but I just realized I'm out of powder :(

Our "kids" are 24 and 25, but the kid in me still likes to carve a pumpkin every year. About 5 years ago I thought of using power tools. A jigsaw is the most awesome pumpkin carving tool ever! Decided to go goofy this year:

Happy Halloween!

The little guy at the bottom is my first try ever, used a pocket knife. I then moved up to the guy at the top with the same knife. The one in the middle I just did on the fly without any concept of what I wanted to do with it other than the tongue. I used some other tools for that one.

That's a great idea. I got a kit with a handheld battery operated pumpkin saw a few years back, but you end up doing most of the sawing :(

Pretty darn good for your first few attempts. Keep at it. Last year I found a website for a guy that sculpts pumpkins, but I can't remember it. I'll see if I can find it.

Here is a 10 minute jack-o-lantern I made this afternoon. This is a 25lb white pumpkin with a flat side. Because of the flat side, I carved the face looking up. The drool is just some seed and pulp. Two kids asked if it was a real pumpkin.
