If you live in Hamilton County OH (greater Cincinnati) or have a relative that does, the Soil & Water Conservation Agency is having a soil on fertility tests. It checks for N-P-K, several trace elements, soil pH and soil conductivity and will give you a recipe for soil amendments. Normally the kits cost $10 if picked up, $12 if mailed to you. From now until April 30, they are on sale for $2 or $3 - quite a savings. There is a limit of two per household at this price.
I'm thinking about having some friends and neighbors order two of them for me. I definitely want to test the dirt I dug up as well as the dead space where the wheat is not growing but would like to test again in the spring after I put the dirt back in and add the compost and top soil.
